Default Whacky Smoke Idea

I'm the one who started the "B&B Smoke System" thread about a week ago.
One of the last replies was from someone with the screen name "bdtsr" who made a comment about using citronella oil to change the color of your smoke.

Now I'm obviously new to smoke (since we haven't gotten ours operating correctly yet) but what would happen if you blended a coloring agent with Super Dri or some other smoke oil? Would it work? What would you use? Some sort of food coloring or dye or something?

Just think: three airplanes, red white and blue, etc.

I know, whacky idea.
But it's snowing here and I'm stuck in the house.

There was a company years ago that made some colored smoke oil...It kinda worked by the coloring agent got all over the plane and screwed up the color scheme..Almost impossible to get off.....

The citronella oil does not change the color of the smoke. To MAKE my cheapy smoke oil I use citronella oil mixed with 2 cycle oil (enough to change the color of the citronella oil to a light blue). Use caution with any of the colored smoke oils as they tend to stain ANYTHING it touches.

Citronella oil with a couple low passes will clear out the muskeeters
our smoke oil mix was 4 parts diesel 1 part liquid parrifin (cement form release) and one part gasoline. B&B mufflers suck for makin smoke i made mine from a large lawnmower muffler and some copper fittings. plug the end of the muffler and drill lots of holes in it. you wont need a preheater coil just dump the smoke fluid in the header pipe below the exhaust port.
parts list
mikuni pump, perry smoke valve and a 32 ounce smoke fluid tank.
that outfit gave our show team a couple gallons of the colored stuff...... no wonder they dont make that plane staining crap any more

Well like I said, we've got a blizzard going on here right now.

Glad we are hopefully through with that white crap (snow not smoke!). If you want to try something with color, try the smoke bomb things they have been strapping to the wings. Multi colors on the same plane if you want. Just can't shut them off once they are lit.

Just regular run-of-the-mill July 4 smoke bombs?
Or something better?

I know you can buy them for HVAC testing.

By the way, here's a photo I took of my back yard about an hour ago. [:'(]

Check out some of the TOC event coverage articles. They (toc guys) started using them. Not sure where they get them though. Maybe some of the shops that carry large scale plane stuff may have them (Chief and Don's maybe).
