Default Best BME Prop and Oil after break in?

Just curious what people are running on their BME 50s? Is a Mejzlik 22x10 too much for when its new with only 2 gallons through it?

I think that's a little much. I've been running a Mejzlik 21x10 on mine and after it's broke in I'm switching to a Mejzlik 22x8.

Default Best BME Prop and Oil after break in?

I'm using a 22x8 MSC to break it in.
I saw 6800 + first tank but I dialled it down to 6500 for the first couple of gallons. Amazing pull on a 16# 29% Edge.

As far as Mejzliks I thought 22x10 is used after the break in... right??
And isn't a Mejzlik 22x8 less load than a 21x10?

I think I am going to use the 22x8 Mejzlik for a few more gallons, and then see if I need to go up in prop

Default Best BME Prop and Oil after break in?

Anyone tried a 3-blade on the BME50? Mines pretty well broke in with an airwild NX 21-10 and it really wants a 22-10, but I'll soon have ground clearance issues. I thought about a mezjlik 20-10 3-blade.

By the way, here are my tach readings (either my tach is broke or I got a hot one). Engines got about 7 gallons and I'm running Amsoil 50:1.

Airwild NX 21-10 8100
ProZinger 22-8 7400

Stratos.- [/B][/QUOTE]

I ran some #'s with a thrust calculator I found on the web and this is what I came up with.

21x10 @ 6800 RPM = 26.21 lbs. of thrust

22x8 @ 6800 RPM = 31.57 lbs. of thrust

These #'s are going by a Menz S prop. I don't know how accurate the thrust calculator is but it appears that the 21x10 is less load. I quess the only real way to tell is to try different ones, document rpm with a regular tach and thrust using a fish scale. I will test these props when I get a chance and let you all know what I came up with using a Mejzlik 21x10 and the 22x8.

Default prop load

cap,

If both props turned 6800rpm ,as in your example, the engine load is identical.

The thrust will vary, in most cases a larger diamater, less pitch prop will give more static thrust.

Ran the motor today with a Mejzlik 21x10, turned up at 7400 rpm, not bad, hoping to try a Menz 22x8 or 22x10 as well.

What oil ratio is everyone using? anyone running amsoil at 80:1 with good results? I know bme recommends 50:1 when broke in, but I always have run my 3Ws at 80:1 after they were broke in with good results, any feedback would be nice.

I've heard you're supposed to run amsoil at 100:1 ratio.
I picked some up, but haven't mixed yet, so I'd be interested in hearing what others are doing.

Default 50:1

BME recommends Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic 2-cycle racing oil after break in which amsoil recommends to mix it at 50:1

http://www.amsoil.com/products/tcr.htm

which is different than this http://www.amsoil.com/products/aio.html
which other engine manufacturers recommend and amsoil recommends at 100:1

It doesn't get any clearer than that.

I guess you can use something else at a different ratio just because you can.
I, on the other hand, try to keep my life simple.....

I'm using a Mejlick 22x10 or a Menz 22x10 they seem fine to me. Now, well after break-in, the 22x8 or 21x10 just make more noise and give no better performance - and the extra two decibels or so put me even further over our Club's limit! I have a 23x10 Mejlick so tried that too - but the extra diameter slows down the revs, whilst increasing the tip speed - too much prop for the 50.

Zingers give more revs but less real power as the prop design is less efficient.

I tried a 20x10 three blade Mejlick the other day and it ran fine, but there seemed to be much less thrust at lower revs than the two bladers - the plane seemed to need more revs to fly well. Throttle response was good, and the impression was that the plane was actually flying faster at high revs. But, there was very little downline braking so, for aerobatics, I'll stick with the two blades.....

Grommet:

try an MSC Prop http://www.mscprops.com/

Wide blade, less noise, lots of pulling power.

Default Props

In all the posts here I haven't seen anyone relate or discuss the difference in the blade area when comparing rpm figures. Blade area is just as critical when deciding which prop to use for the best performance. A Menz Standard prop at 21X10 is much more prop than a Mejlick prop of the same size and when compareing props it just makes sense to compare apples to apples and not grapes.

Personally I always prefer the wider blade prop for slower down lines and more thrust. Usually, if your engine won't turn a Menz standard 22X10 there is a recomendation to use the Mejlick of that size. I'm sure you've all seen the prop reccomendations in the engine builders adds.

I also don't see the need to pay what Mejlick charges for their carbon fiber props. Odds are your airplane will perform better with the wider blade Menz, NX, or BME props to name a few.

Those of you complaining about tip speed need only to put a prop on your plane with more bite and not one with little blade area that allows the rpm to soar. Always consider prop diameter, pitch, and area when choosing your props. It isn't just about the first two.

fancman

That's what I am beginning to like about the MSC props.
Wide blade, rpms are down a bit, but it pulls like a tractor and sounds nice.

I think I read in the BME manual to run 5 gal. befor changing to synthetic. Do you run the regular BME muffler or the J&A Pitts style. Skip
