I was just wondering what two cycle oils everyone is using. What kind of performance it gives how long you have ran it how clean it burns what ratio etc.

I am running Yamaha "R" at 40:1. Semi-synthetic. Currently in a ZDZ 80 & ZDZ 160. Past motors: 2 Ryobi's & GT-74.
Very clean burning. Almost no residue on airframe. I am a happy camper...

I used the Penzoil 2 stroke Air Cooled Engine Oil. I had to get it from a Distribution company. No stores around me sold it.

Stihl chain saw lube 50 to 1. Runs great with very little residue left on plane.

Back ijn the early Quadra days we ran lots of fossil oil in the engines because that was what we thought we needed, even 20:1 stuff. In 20 or so years of progress we have got to 100:1 synthetic and it runs just great in those same old points Quadras, BUT they're broken in!

I have started a few of the newer generation engines of on straight synthetic 100:1 with fairly good results, ie: the engines show no ill effects. Now you might notice that some the manufacturers are recomending break in on fossil oil at high content. I have since seen better results with faster break in and higher power after fewer gallons of fuel burn than I was seeing using the 100:1 synthetics from the outset.

This is a pretty subjective assessment of my own experience (more than 20 years in gasoline powered biggies) but I think it is valid. Tex.

Amsoil 2000 at 80:1 as per the service dept. at Brison. Actually they said 80:1 to 100:1 no more than needed or "you'll stick the rings and burn the piston"

Seeing that more manufacturers are recomending the use of non synthetic oils for break in of engines says a lot. I think there are a lot of people out here trying to run high zoot synthetics when the have very little experience with gas engines and that has probably led to lots of premature engine failures when the novice ends up running his engine lean because he hasn't developed the skills necessary to properly set a gas carb yet. The use of regular 2 cycle oil at 32 X 1 or something like that, I'm sure helps provide a buffer for that lean run. You might burn some oil in the cylinder or gum up the works but it's better than seizing up an expensive engine. I've witnessed lots of modelers with twice the power they need setting their carbs on gas engines to get every last RPM the engine will put out....BAD!!!!!

I use Lawn Boy Ashless for break in and then Honda synthetic at 50 - 1 after that.

WHatever doesn't void my warranty, but right now I run Lawnboy @ 32:1 for breakin, then switch to Amsoil @100:1 per DA's recomendations. Currently running Amosoil @ 100:1 in a DA 100.
