RE: G-62 starting
42% products sells what is basically a relay that plugs into any chanel on mine i use gear which makes sense but i have it and an external kill switch on the airplane so i can shut it off with the transmitter via the gear switch or the throttle trim and i can use the switch on the plane. but Troy built models sells the kill switch for the zenoh engines! it works great and uses hardly any power! on my plane i am running two, 5 cell 3000mha nicads just because of the cost and ease of use and with 6 ds8711's and the kill switch i have flown 7 times in an afternoon then charged it over a week later and it only took 700mha to get back up to 300 on each pack! that is the way to go!

Great planes makes a switch for Magneto engines. It has a simplr lever switch that grounds the magneto killing it instantly. I have on installed in my Fokker. I just glued the switch to the side of a micro servo, and plugged it into the kill channel. They are like $15 bucks of something.
This is totally different than an opto kill for EI engines. Two totally different beasts.

the micro servo is a great idea and is very cheap! as far a the EI i love the mag on the engine and everyone at the field always complains about the lack of EI and then i go head to head against there engines and my G-62 starts just as easy and runs as good if not better than there DA or 3W !!! you pay too much just for a name!!! and weight is not an issue like most think! the g-62 with the mag is lighter than the all up weight of ANY EI engine on the market! and does the spring starter in any way affect the performance of the engine???

Last time I checked on Spring Starter weight it was around 6 oz.
I too hand start my 62, 90% of the time I have good luck, it is that 10% that sucks.
Not only from not starting but haveing to listen to everybody givin you some s**t.
Howerver, the 10% of the time is due to not haveing it wet enough.

The weight of the flywheel/rotor, source coil, spark coil and spring starter really add up in weight. Converting to EI is literally a bolt on do it yourself solution, as there are various kits now available for the Zenoah engines. Those of you who love your 62's, would fall in love all over again with an easy to start, significantly lighter engine In those cases where nose weight is of no consequence, like many warbirds, some biplanes, and other scale aircraft, you could stick with the OEM ignition and go with a spring starter, or consider the CH jumpstart if you already have a balanced model and would rather not add weight, or spend too much money on an ignition system just to start easier.

Real men hand start magneto engines!
I learnt how to do this on a G62 - it was a beach! Back then converting to EIwas costly, sorta, but today the cheap Chinese ignition kits are a no-brainer.
I have seen grown men wanting to cry not being able to hand start their Zenoah's. Not a pretty picture. If you have a magneto Zenoah, convert it to EI. You can thank me later.

RE: G-62 starting
I built the starter for the 62 and others because 30 years ago I busted up my right shoulder, so any type of effort required to start the engine was a real pain in the ##shoulder, the G38 and 26's that I have are still mag ign and are great because it is one less set of batteries that I have to worry about. The 38 has had a 26 race carb and stack fitted since and works heaps better now.

RE: G-62 starting
I would like to see a mag ignition 62 that weighs less than a 4 lb EI version..
I'l give anyone $500 for one like that...Any takers ?
Still waiting for someone to send me a 30cc engine that will pull 26 lbs...$1000 for that one...
Lotta talk here, NO action...
