Default question about stand off mounts

Does anyone make a standoff that is about 3 inches long? I need stand offs that are about 3 inches long to make my prop clear the cowl. If anyone make them where can I get them?

Though you can get machined aluminum standoffs from a few places, have you considered making your own from hardwood square stock?

What plane and engine? The hardwood squares are really easy to make. And a whole lot cheaper

Here is a link that you can get custom made standoffs any length same price. Cheaper than DL http://forgues-research.com/
When you open this up, look on the left for products and click on that, then scroll down until you get to standoffs. Remember he is showing the price in Canadian Dollarsexchange rate is about 1.80 to 1.00 in your favor.

Mine came with standoffs, but two short. They were 1 3/4" and I needed 3". Tried the 3/4 sq hardwood but didn't have enough room to clear the cowl.

I have used Rogers standoffs on several models now. I have them all threaded 5mm so they work on all of my engines and in lengths from 2" to 3" in 1/8" increments. I highly recommend them.

I use 1" hardwood dowel stock cut to the proper length and drilled through for the bolts. They're better than those skinny metal ones, IMHO.

I agree with CR. You use too long of standoffs (3") on any gas engine bigger then a 26cc it is going to shake the plane to pieces. I cut 1/2 or 3/4" plywood in a circle to match the engine mounts and run long bolts through that. You can cut the center out of the circle if you need to get to the carb or fuel lines.
Or drill a hole through 1" dowels like CR said. Lots better. Those big gas engines have lots of twist when they run.

Depends on how you support home made standoffs. Box them in with lite ply and they don't wobble much more than a 1/2" standoff.
