RCexl ignition compatibility Question

RCexl ignition compatibility Question
Right up front you will be able to tell that I do not have much experience (yet) with model gas engines, so speak slooowlyy and don't use big words. Is the RCexl ignition system a universal system that you can pretty much use on any single cylinder gas ei engine? I do realize this means the same spark plug but, other than the plug and maybe the hall sensor connector type can it be used/moved from one enging to another. All of my engines will use the NGK CM-6 plug and I just want have one spare ignition. Will that work as long as I change the sensor connector if need be.
Thanks

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
They will work on any engine that is timed @ 28 deg before top dead center.
Most China made engines are timed @28 deg or at least suppose to be.
Will not work with DA, 3W or ZDZ without changing the timing. Which means you have to drill and re thread for the sensor.

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
G26EI and G20 use the same sensor..RC EXL makes a plug and play ignition just for these engines..the plug on the wire matches the plug on the sensor...
RC EXL ignitions work on ANY gasser, single or twin..The timing can be anything you want it to be...28 to 30 works for any gasser on the planet...

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
Omitted so far is hall/pick up coil sensor types. Although the RC Exl can be used on any gas engine, the hall sensor muct be compatible. For example are 3w, DA, and MVVS. To use the ignition one must change the hall sensor. An engine using a Falkon ignition must have the pin outs changed on the plug to function.
If an RC Exl ignition is installed as a full system, there is no engine restriction.

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
I've changed the magneto system on some Zenoah G45-G62 and 80 Twin by a complete RCEXL system designed for ZG. Very easy to do, and the new propeller hub is well made. Also includes a new sensor housing to bolt on coil mounting.

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
Does, or can, the RC Excel ignition system use the same hall sensor as the CH units??
Also, can anyone answer this question? CH ignitions contracted to sell RC Excel ignitions, but only after they did some mods that CH recommended. So are the other ones floating around on the market manufactured with the CH recommendations, or does RC Excel make one version for public consumption, and one for their sales to CH?? I would rather think it would be more cost effective all around for them to make only one version, but one never knows.... Anyone know the scoop?
Thanks,
AV8TOR

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
Bill knows for sure, but the sensors are wired the same, just different plugs..Bill likes Dean's for his ignitions....
I buy just the circuits sometimes, there have been some changes from the old ones, but they all work very well...

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
I've changed the plugs on my Rcexl to Dean's so I can use my engines with either ignition. I only have one engine that has the exl unit, my DL50, but I bought a spare which is a CH and I changed the connectors on everything so they all match.

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
Well, I hope things calm down for you. Take it easy.
I have a couple of RC EXL ignitions that I "inherited" in a swap with a fellow modeler, and I am wondering if they would possibly have the upgrades that you guys had them do, plus if I can buy sensors from you to work with them. I have one sensor from CH Ignitons here, but I am not sure if it can be used with these RC EXL ignitions.

RE: RCexl ignition compatibility Question
ANY hall sensor will work with ANY RC EXL ignition...3 wires, red, black, and white..Match 'em up..
The sensor on a DA is not compatible, nor can a DA ignition be used with a HALL sensor...
Only two of the three wires on a DA sensor are used, it's not a HALL...
A HALL sensor can't be used with a DA or early 3W igniton...
