Racing Flight Line Box
When I came back into Pylon racing I have been looking for a well thought out flight line box that would carry the bare essentials needed on the flight line. I have looked for several months from Hesperia, Ca and Kingman, AZ to Lowe's Motor Speedway Complex in Charlotte, NC to Hodges Hobbies in Americus, GA and at my home club in Cobb County Georgia. I even looked at the MECA Collecto in Monrovia, CA at the MECOA Factory. The best one I found was one made by Mr. Jim Katz of North Carolina. He was gracious enough to give me a set of plans and I will post pictures now of the finished product and walk through the construction of this handsome box over the next week or two.

It looks great Bob. 99% wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. The other 1% will want it bad!!!
I need to get the plans posted, change the blade on the Bandsaw, and crank a couple of them out.
To much rain, to many projects, not enough time

Jim says it is fine to post the plans. I am in California and will be back home by this weekend. I will post the plans when I get home.

RE: Racing Flight Line Box
Barry,
I have been looking for something like this as a rookie racer (new this year, what a rush). I see you have your radio, stand alone starter, and what looks to be stand alone glow igniters, but also a glow warmer or is that a tachometer? Do you take an extra glow plug with you to the start line? Our season finale is on 12/12/09 (SUPRA) and then I will begin getting ready for next season (new plane, more practice, refining check-list, etc). This racing has made 5-6 of us in our local club kids again. I have gained much from yours, Davens, and others posts that have taken me from 3:00 minutes to 1:40 minutes on a 2 pylon long (660 ft.) course since beginning Q500 (424-type) with a viper this year. MUCH THANKS TO ALL!!!!

Slim, I am going to get the plans done and then build the basic box (1). I will then think about how my priorities are different from Jimmy's and modify the box for my specific use. Who knows I might decide to let it stand as Jimmy made it.

RE: Racing Flight Line Box
Well, I got off my dusff and cut out parts for three box's tonight. My wife is working at scanning the plans into the puter and will com as a jpg file if and when I get them in.
I bought a new band saw acouple of years ago. It is a 19" saw and using it was great.
The outside demensions of the box are 9.5" X 7.5" and hopefully I will be able to post the plans in the morning.
JIms box had the handle go completely through the sides. I plan on just butting the handles to the sides using a screw and Gorilla glue to hold it.

RE: Racing Flight Line Box
Hey Vic, Happy New Year. This is the flight line box just for racing with the bare essentials in it.
Jim, also made a fueling station that I have the plans for and plan on making one for my fueling needs. Well, I will probably make 2-3. I like electric pumps and I will be setting them up with likpo batteries so they are independent. I hadn't thought about my Jett fueler but, I am now and the one for racing will have a holder for my fueler. I am also going to make some extras for our Club 40 fueling stations as I really do not like the six shooter pumps strapped to the plastic fuel bottle.
Hopefully plans and pictures in the next week.

RE: Racing Flight Line Box
Thank you Barry;
This is just about the only flite box on any of these forums and when I see other requests for one you can bet I will direct them here to this forum.
Thanks again to you and to your wife for her efforts. I know you had better things to do on New Year's eve.
Dennis

Thanks SC. As far as NYE we have reached that point in our lives where we stay in and usually are asleep well before midnight. But when we wake up in the morning first one always says HNY.
As I assemble the FB's I will take pics and post and share my techniques.
