Default 1/4 Sig CW Cub

I`m building the Sig 1/4 Clipped Wing Cub.I`m planning on using my Saito 1.30 twin on this plane .Has anyone out there used this particular combo?Should I use an onboard glow ignition system?I`m new at flying twins. What is a good brand name for an onboard ignition?
---appreciate some help-

The 1.30 might be a little small for the 1/4 scale size. It will put out aobut the same power as the Saito 1.20 single. A Saito 1.82 twin would be a much better motor for the 1/4 scale. I can tell you that you will need to light up both sides of the engine to start it. I Y'ed both rear plugs to one igniter for starting. I am using the Mc Dannel remot glow starter system. It works good, though it does put a good drain on the Ni-Starters.

Thanks Steve,
I figure on covering plane with Ultracoat to keep weight down.I allready have the 1.30 and it ran well on the test stand. This engine has only one plug per cylinder.I`ve heard guys saying their 1.30s had two plugs per cylinder ,I wonder if mine is a older (newer) version. The engine was perchased from an E-bay deal and was found to be grease(old oil) locked when I recieved it .After a total cleanup the engine was found to be in excellant shape. The engine has been well broken in and started very easy-I did lite both plugs when starting.

Wulf, I can't comment on the Saito 130 set-up, but I do agree you'll not have any power to spare. FWIW, mine flies well with a Saito 150, but it is hardly overpowered.

Check out my review at http://webpages.charter.net/rcfu/Kit.../SigCWCub.html for some construction tips.

Have fun it's a great bird!

A friend flys his 1/4 scale clipped wing version vey well on and old OS 120 twin. I think your Cub will fly in a scale manner with the Saito.

Beautuful Hazel Sig-Nice job.Ive allready printed out the tips on building but ,thanks anyway.I`m going with the 130,it`s a good running engine and I know it`s realiable .I wish I had a 182 but the 130 is what is on the shelf.I like to find someone who has tried this engine in this plane.

Wulfman,

If you've ever been to the CARDS show in Lansing or the TRAMPS show in Traverse City, you've seen the Cub I referred to. It's been around for over 10 years.

I ran a OS 120 twin, apc 16x6 at 8,000 rpm and OS 91fx in my Cubs. Both where over powered scale wise. That isn't saying much because a Cub is very low powered. You will be able to do loops, slips, spins and wing overs, land on one wheel. Mine would go vertical for 30 to 40 feet. A real Cub can not do that. I used Robart gear on mine. It works great. Use the Saito 130 and enjoy rudder flying at its best!

Your Saito will be plenty of power. I flew mine with an old OS 1.20 (15 years ago) and not clipped wing and it would do all the things you wanted to do including good inverted flight and snap rolls. Mine was covered with Solartex and heavier than normal yet flew very well.

Hey, Thanks to all for the feedback .I feel good now about the 130 and have to get out to the shop and get this baby done -not much time left for building -flying time starts real soon.

Hi, This message is to Luv Bipes.or anyone--
According to reviews on this plane they added 2 degree side trust to the engine mount(firewall)Did you incorporate 2 degree right angle side trust to your engine mount? If so,how do you line up crank on engine to proper center on cowel? The only way I can figure is to move engine to the left so crank comes out at the center of cowel. Is this correct?
Let me know-

The 182 does not fit, because the carbs are on top of the engine. I flew one without a cowl but that engine was very finicky and most of the flying was done with only one jug firing. The cub flew just fine even with that limited power.....

The 130 will do very nicely.

Wulf,

I never used on board glow with my two Saito 300's. I don't think you'll need it.

Just make sure that your twin is properly broken in. Saitos take a long breakin period.

I just acquired one this week with a new 130 and I'm hoping to fly it this weekend.
I'll let you know if I can get all the bugs out.
Does anyone have a prop suggestion for this setup?
Also is the 130 a good engine or a dog?
thanks all.
