30cc engine RPM
I have a 30cc chainsaw that I am thinking of converting for RC. My only question is about the RPM's. What is a pretty good conservative estimate of the RPM's on a 30cc engine? Reguardless of the brand I just want to know a practical range on average. Thanks in advance for the help!

RE: 30cc engine RPM
It all depends on what you want to put it in, but in terms of max rpm allowed, I would not allow it to turn over 8000-8500 on the ground. It probably would turn 12,000 if you let it. Many of the commercial leaf blowers turn this sort of rpm day in day out for years. However, keep tip speed below 0.7 Mach. Tip speed = diameter of prop x 3.1416 (pi) x rpm/720 = tip speed in feet per second. Speed of sound at sea level = 1088 ft/second. Not likely a problem with this size of engine. Prop the engine accordingly until you get what you want. Overall I would recommend you start with a 17x8 or an 18x6.
FYI - the Zenoah people recommend 7000-8000 rpm of the ground for their G26. The G26 is also used in kids scooters where it turns up to 12000 rpm.
