Hey guys this weekend was semi productive I went at it like a mad man to finish this baby but burned out by saturday and decided to step back and relax before I make some majior mistakes so day 20 21 and 22 were not bad I covered the plane useing metalic blue monocote on top and silver ultracote on the bottom the engine was mounted and some of the decals were applied I made a hatch in the back to get the controls the whole plane is hinged and glued and the landing gear was painted and instaled
all is left to paint the deck and the cowl and I will take my time now and finish it well

Day 24 some more decals were applied also I coated the inside of the plane with a thin layer of epoxy resin to fuel proof the wood and foam this may add a few ounces but in the long run it is well worth the penalty I also started the paintin of the cowl and deck so far everything looks good no runs and the colour went on no problem

Yes I did I used automotive primer untill all was perfect and smooth then I used just a thin layer of lutercote primer so the paint would match the covering (it needs the white base to mach) sand the primer after about 8 hours or so of drying with 320 grit sand paper then spray in thin layers otherwise it will run very thin cotes with a 5 minute break in between untill it fills up then padd it down with a scotch pad arter it dryies for about 6 to 8 hours and final spray the clear cote

I used white primer as well........

but what I'm getting is spots where the paint feels smooth and glossy and then spots that fell rough and not glossy. This is before I clearkote.

So do I sand the whole thing down with like 600 or 1000 to even it all out and then hit with clear?

Yes sand the whole thing down with a pad not sand paper the pad is equal to 800 to 1000 grid
the problem is the overspray from the can that dulls the edge of the spray patern and you end up with the mat sections
it even happens on the clear cote
I will in the future see if I could find a comercial clear cote that we can apply on lustercote to get a better finish

Well guys I spent day 26 on the instalation and today we went out to the field to Maiden the plain unfortunatly I was grounded due to a bad wiering harness in the left elevator so I put it together sat down at the field and just relaxed I fixed the harness tonight and I will try again tommorow
by the way we put her on the scale and she came in at 39 lb 5 oz with smoke system so I hit my target bang on
There you have it box to field in 28 days and now I am dead tierd and I think will take a few weeks off from balsa dust

Incredible indeed. I was at the field today and saw Arthur's EDGE in person. Looks even better than the pics! That's me in the fifth pic bending over to grab my EF Yak's canopy. To give you an idea of how big his Edge is, I am 6 foot tall and was only about 30 feet away and that is an 87" Yak!

Too bad you didn't stay longer at the field Arthur. I ended up hovering my Yak about 2 feet above the corn for the whole length of the field! Good thing I had a change of underwear in the truck....

Great job man

John
