Advantage CARF.
-Its an ARF
-No covering to iron
-some paint schemes are nice
-fly stable
-spare parts are avail
Dual Battery adv--
-if one pack shorts you have a backup pack inline already (cheap insurance on a $3k + plane
-usuable weight for balance vs just using lead
For NIMH batteries it depends on the size airplane. But your looking at a 4.8-6volt pack in the 2500 range for 35% and 4000 range for 40%.
You can go with less and charge more often or go for more and charge less often.

RE: composite arf- dual power source
I agree with Dave... except I would by pass the Lithium and go right to A123s... I dont think there is a battery that can touch them right now.
I run a Power Expander Sport Plus with A123s and it works very well. You could actually run dual A123s and some quality switches and skip the power expander.. but it does have some nice advantages.
That being said I ran a 33% with dual switches and dual 1500 NoBS nimh 2/3 cell packs last year and it took all I could throw at it without blinking.
