Default OS FL .70's Power

I have a midwest .60 size P-51 I am building and I want to put a four stroke on it and I looked at the saito .72 and the add said that it would have ample power for the plane. I am also looking at the OS FL .70, but I know nothing about this engine and it's performance . Does anybody have one of these and would it work on the plane? Any help is appreciated! Thanks Dan.

Either the OS or the Saito would provide adequate power for scale like flight, perhaps a bit better than scale, providing that you don't load the plane up with too many scale details, aka extra weight.

OIL CAN DAN....

....Trust me on this. A .60 size Mustang will be a "DOG" with a .72 size four-stroke
in it. Keep in mind, a P-51 Mustang was probably the most "high performance"
piston driven plane ever built. If you want any kind of performance out of a .60
size Mustang....put a .91 four stroke in it!

Keep in mind also, that a .70 or .72 four stroke....only has the power of about a
.50 two stroke....which is under powering the plane from the get-go.

I did hear that the 90's in four stroke were comparable to the .60's in two stroke, So it looks like to the 90's it is. I see that magnum makes a 91 and it is a lot cheaper in $ than the others, is the quality the same or similar to saito or surpass.? Also the plane is recomending a 12 oz tank, if I put the larger engine in should I put a larger tank in also?

Don't know how much nose weight your going to need, but the TT 91 FS is a beast of an engine if you need the extra noseweight.

How does the tt fourstroke compare to the magnums?

The Magnum .91 is a sweetheart, I have 3 of them. I can't speak about
the TT .91, because I don't own one. The Magnum is reasonably priced
and very user friendly, and doesn't require much break-in. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Thanks Dave, My brother strongly recomends the magnum also. It will be my first four stroke. I have flown stricktly two stroke but I feel that the Greatness of the P 51 deserves the four stroke sound! Is there any qwerks to mounting these on their side or upside down?

No troubles, I've mounted all ways. The inverted is good for the Mustang
because of not having to hack off the exhaust pipes on the sides.

TT 91 4-stroke is much stronger than the Magnum 91 4-stroke. My friend has the TT, and I had the Magnum. TT out-pulls the Magnum by about 600~700 rpm on the same prop.

My friend's TT doesn't seem to want to run right though.

Sean, Are they both newer engines? or did this rough running problem just start?

If i had a choice I would get the magnum, I have a tt91 and it pings like a mad dog if ran too lean, the magnum just slows down, it may not have to power edge, but the service and parts dept. are second to none. It does that on the ground when i'm tuning, its also more finicky to temperatures of the day...
