Helicoil in a stripped cranckase...
Hello,
I would like to know if it's possible to install 2.5mm helicoils for holding the cylinder head in an OS 91FS Surpass cranckcase.
Thank you,

Max:
If there is enough metal around the hole, an insert should be easily done.
The problem will be getting the heli coil kit. It will cost a large fraction of the price of a new crank case. If you know someone with the kit, one insert and the labor wouldn't be too high.
Bill.

The helicoil will transfer more force than the original thread. However:
the tool is expensive. like already stated
it is a general nuisance to have the coil loose ends. If not careful, everything is ruined pronto, and you loose money, time and engine.
To reinstate an old, rare engine, yes. Otherwise, just tap in a larger thread, or replace the whole part.
My 0.02 (Euro of course)

Drill and tap M3 or M4 tread and insert M3/M4 solid rod made in brass or aluminium with locktite at treads. Drill and tap M2.5 in new material. Now all are done.
