I prefer to use large tubing on any engine larger than a 1.00.
There is another school-of-thought that if the high speed needle can be turned out enough to cause the engine to run rich, then the tubing is large enough to support the engine size.
The regular (medium) sized tubing should be OK. Try it while the engine is on an engine stand to verify before putting in the plane's plumbing.
I know many fliers who use nothing but the medium tubing on engines as large as a 2000, but then it's my personal preference to use the larger tubing. Makes me feel comfortable.
