Default Saito 82

My first Saito.I got it Wed last week.
Mounted it to a 1X4 yesterday and primed it, started on the first flip.
Let it run a 10 oz. tank @ 4000.
Spent the rest of a gallon running fairly hard.
APC 14X4W @ 9000 +/- still fairly rich.
I'm very impressed with the userfriendliness.
This will NOT be my last Saito.
Also got a YS 110 last week,it's next week-ends project.

The 82 is going on a Wild Stick 40,and the 110 is slated for a Goldberg Ultimate.

Yes, do not exceed 4000 rpm for the first 10 min.
But to run it hard after that is insane, and you probally ruined your engine.
The purpose of breaking in an engine is do do it gradually, to get the mating parts to gently wear in together.
This takes a gradual increase and varing rpm only a little bit at a time, and allowing the engine to cool between runs.
Do a search on breaking in the Saito 4-stroke engines to learn how to do it properly and how to take care of your investment.

If you think the Saito was not userfriendly then you will not be happy with the YS engine either as they can be even more finiky than the Saito.
Hopefully you will take a little more care breaking in that engine than you did on the saito.

Perhaps you should re-read my post,and actually pay attention this time.
I said I love the userfriendliness.
And,if I ruined my engine,so what,I bought it with my money,not yours.

Mike- damn![X(] Way to shut 'em up.

Come on, dude- if you have been posting here for a while, you will have learned that only 10% of people actually read what you type!!

On topic- I also have a new Saito 82, and while it is not as easy to tune as an O.S., it is getting there- and the power/weight can't be beat. I have mine in a Sig Somethin' Extra running 10/20 Wildcat with a 12x8; its got balls. And it looks cool. Still working on the transition from idle... What fuel are you using? I'm trying to avoid going the --EXPENSIVE-- 20/20 route, especially since my O.S. 4-strokes are happy with what I've got.

Good luck with the YS, let us know how it goes.

MIke if you love the SA82 ... wait till you run your YS110 ... totally awesome on 30% heli fuel! Try taking the muffler off after she has run in ... its even more fun.

ALL of my experience with Saito's shows that they are build with HARD materials and take a pretty good while to fully break in. IMO if there was ever an engine you could run hard right out of the box it would be a Saito. Be patient with them when they are new as all of mine have taken 3-5 gallons of fuel to break in. Until they break in they will not hold a steady top end RPM and getting a nice sloooow idle(under 2000) is next to impossible till they are ready. They do get there though and when they do you'll really start to love them.

running an engine with kidd gloves during break-in, save the first few minutes, will only prolong the required break-in.... sure, you don't want to run it real lean - but then, you don't want to do that even AFTER it's broke-in either.... short tanks, heat and cool... but don't baby it....
