Welcome to Club SAITO !
What's up there Old Fart. Miss Me? I need a piston ring for a Saito FA .50. Can you help me find one? I'm still at deadmeataircraft@gmail.com
ps pope i think slammy has been out circulation due to his habit of riding off road three and fourwheelers,we know where that's going,a new diet of hospital food plus if i remember right he hand starts big chainsaw engines with sharp props. It can turn an articulate hand into a dibber in a flash mate

I saw a guy hover a LT-40 and make it do rolling circles, and all the 3D stuff. It had a 46FX on it. Quite impressive. Another guy at the club said they bought out a hobby shop and ended up with something like 6-7 LT-40 kits on their hands. They did crazy mods to them and this guy build one with wing anhedral. He said that didn't work out well.
I taught a class of college students to build LT-40s. There's lots of room for mistakes and mods of all kinds. Everyone used to kit bash the 4*40 but I think LT-40s and Somethin' Extras are just as good for that too.

The Saito engine code for the .50 is E, the code for the .50GK is F and AA for the 1.00T, When looking for parts for the .50 just type in Saito E and quite a few parts still show up.
OK just picked up a brand NIB Saito FA-56. Never been mounted, but when I pulled the muffler out of the box, found it is the wrong muffler. Looks like it will fit my old FA-45 though. Is there a code I can use to look up the correct Muffler for this?
Also, if I were to get an FA-180 and add CDI to it, will it improve fuel efficiency and by how much, comparable to a gas engine. I am still debating on the NGH 38CC 4 stroke gas, or a pair of converted FA-180's. I did spot an FA-220 today, NOB, but I didn't have the $500 he was asking, and that still leaves me with trying to locate a second one I don't want to settle for a 2 stroke for the plane, but also don't wish to spend more for one engine that I did for the entire plane.
Also scored 4 more Futaba 3010 servos, so other than a pair of 3004 for the throttles, I have all the wing servos I need.

Bob all of my Saitos engines are mounted inverted. It is important that the low idle screw is tuned properly in the inverted position. I would also recommend an onboard ignition. I found those to be take care of a flame out on approach. All that extra nitro is only going to cost more than the engine needs

Really upset with "Slimline Mufflers"
Have been trying to get Slimline mufflers for my inverted FA 150 &180. Has been a month now on one and 3 months on the other which was ordered through my local hobby shop. They are unable to give me/us an ETA. Received responses to two emails since then with promises of two weeks but nothing happens.
Has anyone had similar experience with Slimline? Are they going out of business?
BTW they did debit my credit card on day 1

Thanks, Alex. That's what I was planning on. I might even rig up a test mount to run the engine inverted, just for final tuning.... and just because I like to fiddle around....

I would suggest that for the first start up in inverted mode that you go back to the original engine specs for the high speed needle valve which may be 4-5 turns out. As the larger 4 strokes are notorious for backfiring and throwing a prop. Make sure you also use the double lock nuts on the prop. After u succeed in restarting it without a problem then fine tune the low speed needle. This has worked for me in my FA180.
Good luck

Saito twin 300
Hi, I obtained a Saito twin 300 today that has been idle for many years, it is mounted on a L-19. The question I have is it appears to have a spark advance, I have never seen one on a glow engine before, can anyone with experience with this engine tell me what I am looking at?

You're looking at an Early C&H Ignition system with mechanical advance, the mechanical advance was later replaced with electronic advance called SynchroSpark. This is the current version.

Well son, rcexl as you call it is a strange reliable way of providing a reliably timed spark and not seizing your saito glow engine when you lean it out if you are using pure synthetic oil.
ps did i mention that castor turns the coils in your os f glow plug a slight bronzey colour, looks purty
