Default ALL NEW SAITO's CHECK THIS!

Just had a scare. while test stand running a brand new Saito 65, I glanced down at the prop fron the back of the running engine to see this tiny rod sliding it's way OUT of the Cam Gear Housing heading into the spinning Prop!!.. I slammed the throttle closed to see that the CAM gear Shaft was just hanging out in space. There was an empty space just above it on the Housing where the SET screw should have been!. Either it was never there or the factory forget to tighten it down. A quick call to HH and they are sending the missing part out to me however I hope I did not damage the pushrods . IF YOU HAVE ANY NEW SAITO ENGINE I ADVISE YOU TO MAKE SURE THIS SET SCREW IS IN THERE AND THAT IT IS TIGHTENED DOWN.

Flying in scary clear skies ! Mikel-T

Mike:

Send the whole engine back.

There's a thrust washer at each end of the cam shaft, the one in the rear has probably fallen out of place. The only way to be sure is pull the complete cam housing assembly off the block. If free inside it could get into the timing gears and really do some damage.

Send the whole engine back.

Bill.

To get the cam housing off, you will need to remove the carb/intake assembly and the cyl/piston/push rod assembly first.

You will need to reset the timing.

Mike:

W8YE Jim is right - when you get the cam housing off the only thing left in the blolck will be the crank shaft.

Jim:

Since it is a new engine that was getting its very first run I thought Mike would rather have Horizon do the work.

Good job Bill.

It would be best that he send it to Horizon because who knows what may have happened with that rear spacer if it dropped down on the crank?

Enjoy,

Jim
