RE: SuperTigre S2000
Just tried the Tigre on some byron with 10%nitro in my S2000 alot better run and idle, I think I want to do away with the nitro all together. I cant believe how much smoother it runs. One thing I cant seem to get to work is to get the throttle setup to kill at low trim and stick down. It seems the barrel is closed all the way but it still just wants to run HELP!(chasing plane through the garage)

RE: SuperTigre S2000
Don't thing a big Tigre won't kick back. I use the back flip to bounce it off compression since I am a lefty and spinning the spinner is awkward for me. They do start very easily this way and I have never had to use a starter on mine. I have flown both days at a giant meet and 1-flip started every time. Once you know the technique, it becomes so easy you'll wonder why everyone doesn't do it that way. It also works for smaller ABC engines.
A buddy flipped his forward and it kicked before it got to top dead center. It broke the bone in his finger.

RE: SuperTigre S2000
Hello i have a few questions regarding this big Tigre....number one is what plug do you use in this engine? I have a hangar9 super plug in it and it seems to be too cold. Number 2 is I cant get the throttle to kill or shut the engine off with the trim down all the way it looks like the barrel is closed all the way but it still wants to run? I just started running the Byron 10% today and it runs so much smoother than before with coolpower 15%. If someone could help just a little with these minor details this engine will be perfect in my eyes.

If it still runs at cut-off you have an air leak
I think there is a two stroke super plug and a four stroke super plug. The four stroke should be better

SIG MFG , makes big bore fuel with a 10% nitro ,12% castrol , synth mix
also what they call a tigre blend , of , 10 percent nitro 10 % castrol, synth mix. ( 1/2 castor,
1/2 synth) there cant be that much diff between them.
it states in ALL TIGRE manuals that i've read , that you have to use high oil on break in ,
than switch to the low oil stuff, once the engine is run in well enough, this is on all
2000, 2500, 3000, 4500 engines

Once I was hand starting my 3000 on the test stand, wearing a heavy leather glove and I got smacked hard. The pain was not unlike getting my hand smashed by a ball bat. I ran a few laps around the yard holding my hand in pain. If not for that glove, sometihing may have been broken.
I still hand prop my engine, I just follow through better, keeping my paw out of the prop arc.

Ok just today I found methanol in the pure form of 100% methanol. I am lucky to have a mother that works for a chemical company, so the question is what fuel would the recomendation be to cut down with the methanol to get a good Tigre fuel. I was thinking the byron 10%nitro with 18% oil blend. Would it be good to cut it 50|50 with the methanol.

RE: SuperTigre S2000
AS RC Pilot appears to be very knowledgable on thes motors,I would like to know if he can explain an odd design feature of all the Italian made large SuperTigres.I have asked many about this and have never received an answer to my satisfaction.
The prop drive is cast and not machined and if you look at the rear you will see it hollowed out and has two opposite balancing weights. However they are not of the same size and therefore cannot be of the same weight.Only slight and probably of no consequence. But why different sizes?.
Still that is not the major query.
When you purchased any of the ST's new, this drive was always loose on the shaft as it is on a taper. Now I know some of the early OS and other motors had counterbalances built into the drive washer, but these were always located by either a "D" pin or flat on the shaft. This kept the counterbalance in one position only. The SuperTigre being on a tapered shaft could be placed anywhere. Probably the small counterbalances do nothing at all,but why are they there and why each a different size. Why any at all?.
All the latest Chinese Tigres have a machined solid drive.
I agree, the large Tigres are fantastic motors,if over weight and only suitable for some models. The original Italian instructions advised after run-in,12% castor oil and no nitro, balance methanol was the reccomended fuel.

RE: SuperTigre S2000
The weights arent there just to balance the prop backing plate are they?
Are the OS 7D carbs still available?
I also saw somewhere you can use some ASP carbs on these motors. Anyone know which carb?
I am thinking of grabbing a S2000 25cc version next week. Its an italian made engine. If I cant get the stock carb operating properly I will try to locate a 7D or something similar.

I have 1 2000, and 2 2500's. I run 15% nitro and 18% castor/synthetic mix and OS "F" plugs. When I got my first 2500 I spoke to Bill Baxter "BAX" at GP. He told me to use the "F" plug for best results. He also said these engines will run on higher nitro. He had run a 4500 on 30% (for racing I think). He also stated that for 10 to 12% oil it must be all castor otherwise 18% castor/synth mix. I do have the paperwork to support this from ST when I got my second 2500. Obviously run what YOU feel comfortable with. My best 2500 turns a Mezjlik 18X8 at 8900rpm. Flew my Sig Cap 231Ex very well.

A friend of mine has a NIB S 2000 that he would like me to post FS on RCG. I can't find any info on what they are going for in USD. Any help in putting a value on this?

Since the OS 7-D carb is no longer available new, I suggest you try the magnum 108 carburetor. It can be obtained from Hobby People. Thats what I did and it worked out for me.

RE: SuperTigre S2000
The ASP 108 or 120 carb will work just fine. Also the Perry carb for big ST engines is also reasonable and works well. The OS F plug allows these engines to run upside down without deadsticking.
Good luck,

RE: SuperTigre S2000
try a walbro alky carb. #wt-499 some zenoahs used these, evo 26/35cc carb adapters, studs, bushings and nuts from horizon hobby. also thunder tiger 1.20 carb with s. t. carb bushing. install extra head gasket/shim for higher nitro fuel. a fellow on this tread using the walbro 499 carb on his s. t. 2300 with good success. tank position not critical with walbro carb, (internal pump).

It stands to reason the 4501 will work on the 2500.

RE: SuperTigre S2000
perry pump and non pump carbs are great their pump system can be a bit tricky to set up but once set they work great, have use their carbs for many years and they work very good. what i like about the alky walbro is they draw fuel from a pretty good distance so you can put the tank at or on the c/g and as fuel is burned off the c/g doesn't change. just my 3 cents worth. also zima carbs has a alky overhaul kit for some of their carbs and they have the same mounting bolt spacing as the walbro
