YS FZ110s vs OS 120 Surpass III pumped vs Saito 125A
Hi all
As these 3 engine priced very closed on my side of pond, I'm a bit of dilemma. Which would you go for?
I know the YS would need minimum 20% but 30% would be best where as the OS and Saito should be more than happy on 15%. Of course YS is a closed pressurized system and would probably make the most power (help a lot by high nitro) but I wonder which would be less temperamental and more reliable/durable over a period of time.
Obviously I would presume the YS will not last as many flight due to a much higher output(I could be wrong), but what would be your take and why.

I've got the beer and popcorn out
Here's my thoughts
All are good brands.
It depends on what you are trying to achieve.
I have no experience with that particular OS - so I'll leave that alone.
The Saito is a very easy engine to own and run.
The YS is a powerhouse for it's size - similar to the Saito in raw form.
The Saito likes anywhere from 10% to 30% Nitro - the YS prefers 20 to 30%.
The YS can be "a bit of a pain" to set up. They can be a real PITA if you like "twiddling needles" each flight - once set up - let them be - they are reliable runners once set up and if they are used regularly.
The YS has a lot of aftermarket exhausts available but the Saito has a similar engine connection to the YS so you can use many of the YS sets on it if you want to run a pipe.

RE: YS FZ110s vs OS 120 Surpass III pumped vs Saito 125A
Actually I have ordered the YSFZ110S from the LHS and they take forever to come (already 3 weeks) and my plane build is done pending engine only! So if I want an earlier gratification, Saito and OS is readily available hence my dilemma.
LHS can't confirm when FZ110S is available... sigh!
I certainly do not hope this ended up as popcorn thread!

WOW-lets see, if you want balls out performance-YS, if you want good performance and easy maintance-Satio. If you want OK performance, superior reliability and running-OS.
Enough said.

These are 3 different engines making different power.
Saito 125 is the lightest and weakest. YS110 is the strongest but heavier than the Saito125. OS120III with pump is the heaviest but makes more power than the Saito125.
IMO if you gonna buy the OS then take the OS200FS for about the same weight as the OS120.
I know from experience that Saito and OS engines last for a very long time but I do not have any long term experience with the YS engines.

My Extra 300 with a Saito 125 is a real powerhouse. 7 1/2 pound plane, 16X8 MAS for a prop. I estimate the thrust at at least 10 pounds, probably closer to 12. My Extra goes vertical at 35 MPH or so. I love the Saitos!!!!!

i love all of those motors once tuned its on with all of them just depending on your power needs. I am pretty easy on the left stick and do very little rocking out of anything as smooth is what i like most of the time[8D]

OS-weak, Saito-shaker. YS is absolute winner. I have had 3 of them. All needed hours and hours of feedling, and then were marvells.

Both OS120Surpass III and Saito125 that I have had runs as smooth as you can expect a large single cylinder fourstroke to be. YS110 is just as good as the other two but becomes stronger on higher nitro%. All these 3 engines are more or less flyable right out of the box. No extended break in is needed maybe 15-20min at max. Usually one tank on the ground is all it takes to setup the needles slightly rich before the first flight.

Flyer, I run the Saitos for the 40 minutes because that is what the manual says, but in reality once you set the needles after the first 15 minutes of running a Saito will fly very well.
