"Burning out" 225 servos
Hi guys. first let me say, i've been a great fan of hitec servos for years. i've used many, many 225 servos (BB&MG) in lots of applications. i've gone out of my way to use them if possible and never had any issues (other than broken gears due to crash type damage). i've broken the cases of some in combat planes and continued using them with no issues....
more recently, due to flying some larger planes, i've started using the digitals. i've read numerous times on this forum (usually in questions about the digitals) that the hitec servos are fine on 5 cell packs - even work better on 5 cells. so, i've gone to 5 cell packs in most of my planes.
recently i've had a rash of "fried" 225 servos.
-2 on ailerons (in the bipe in my avatar - a couple of months apart). There is one servo for each aileron on this plane.
-one on throttle in the bipe.
-also one on throttle in another plane.
i'm careful that the 2 throttle servos were not "jammed" on their endpoints at either high or low throttle. The failure mode was (for 3 of them) move to one extreme. so both throttle servos went to full throttle and i had to fly the planes out of fuel and deadstick. also, it did not simply "stick" at one extreme, it literally throttled up from mid range on its own and then stayed there. same thing for the aileron that went full deflection....(luckily - still had 3 working).
last one was a week or so ago, another aileron just died - but this time at neutral.
the ones that went to extreme position were using power to hold their position. i couldn't really move them while powered up. powered down and then could move them. power back up and they are "just dead". the one which stayed at neutral just seemed dead and movable even with power applied.
my main question is: are the 225's ok on 5 cell packs? or was this just bad luck? if the 225's should not be run on 6 volt, does that also apply to the digital mini (i forget the number - but i also have several of those.....)

5 cell packs (6 volts) should be fine for these servos and their digital counterparts. I use both of these on 6 volts with my own models and have not had any problems with them burning out.
