Default diff binding?

i rebuilt my front diff yesterday with my new alum diff cup and it is very tight when i try and turn it, it is like it is binding, like when you have your spur set wrong, how can i fix this? i have rebuilt my diff bout 4 times already and just keep stripping them, i've heard people talking bout shimming diffs but never tried it, is this the problem?

You might need to use a thicker gasket to space it out if its still to tight
