Default P200

Is it possible for a P200 driven aircraft to go so fast that the turbine can surge or stall causing very loud pops or bangs?

Thank you

Warwick

poor air flow can cause any size turbine to compressor stall resulting in those symptoms.

Hard to say. It depends very much on the installation, and whether it is an open install or closed. On an open install I doubt any problems can be caused by excessive speed (at least up to maybe 400 MPH)

Thank you for the reply Matt.

The engine was in an Ultra Bandit that was excessivly over sped. It sounded like 3 rifle shots until the throttle was pulled. Have not had the time to check for structural damage. Not my aircraft, a friends whom I build for.

Thanks

Warwick

Hi Warwick,

Nope I have not heard of that, better check with BVM to get the latest, and make sure your pipe is OK.

Regards,

if while at the over speed the bandit was banked and yanked abruptly it could cause enough disturbance to the airflow into the intakes that it would starve a P-200 at max RPM and result in a compressor stall but flat and level shouldn't be a problem BUT a bandit with P-200 really shouldn't be pushed to that extreme.
