I am in Germany currently, want to send my friend a DX7SE for Christmas... the hobbyhops in South-Africa tells him that we don´t have them yet cause they are illegal in South-Africa... That is the most ridiculous story I have heard of in a long time... how can it be? has 2.4GHZ suddenly changed frequency? is there something that I am missing? what is the difference between a 2.4GHZ DX7 (which they do get) and a 2.4GHZ DX7SE?... I think its the most boring excuse ever...

Any new system will require some degree of testing to ensure it meets the national requirements.
In Europe they must meet the CE regs, In the USA it's the FCC , Australia it's the C Tick and so on.... Not sure what the national body is for South Africa, but it will be a requirement.
Although it's based on the DX7, there are enough differences between that and the DX7SE for it to warrant retesting.

with the higher frame rate, the occupied bandwidth could be quite a bit different - could be, not necessarily will be..
Problem is - just because the DX7 is approved, doesn't mean the DX7 SE is - it will take time, but I would bet it's being worked on. The approval comes from a government body, and we all know how fast THEY move around the world, eh?
I may be in SA in a week or two - any good hobby stores in Johannesburg?

you were correct about the output power... thats the problem... 100mW is limit in SA apparantly... but the importers of Spektrum are working on a software change...

great news! the hobbyshop have the certificate to prove that in Europe the output wattage has been dropped to 100mW making it legal to be sold here... also SA then... stoked!
