Default Covering Iron madeCovering Irons

I have not been satisfied with the performance of my Top Flite iron (it finally burned out). I replaced it with a Hanger 9 iron which wont get over 300 deg and the coating gets soft and wont slide over the covering smoothly.

Is there another covering iron made? One that does not have the problems associated with the Top Flite and Hanger 9 irons???

Thanks for your help....Thomas

Try putting a sock (white) on it. I have a TF iron from
the 80's that i'm still using.

Thomas- I bought one of these two or three years ago. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXB361&P=7 It will hold a constant temperature better than a Top Flight. Jim

I just bought one of those a few months ago. It is the best iron I have ever used.

I used the H-9 iron for about 8 or 10 years and when that one burnt up I had an old Hobbico iron I picked up at auction still NIB. I started using it, didn't like it at all?? After a couple of planes I have gotten used to it and it works out very well. I can get it hot enough to light wood if need be. There are a lot of good irons out there to choose from. They all just take a little getting used to. You really should be using an iron sock of some kind over them though.

I have a Top Flite with a mitten on it. Mine works fine.

The coverrite 21st century is a great iron. I have used it for several covering jobs. It holds heat well, and works great! I especially like the curved nose of the iron as it is very forgiving and will not poke the covering.

A couple years a go I was just about to buy the Coverite iron, but I decided for my currently in use TopFlite after a few TowerHobbies burned out. If I have to buy another one (if the currently one colapses) i will try that Coverite one.
