whats the allen wrench fix? my button hasnt broken, but im worried about it....

I had my XXL out today... set up a makeshift jump with a door and a couple tackle boxes... it didn't go so well, crashed and cartwheeled more than I landed at first... the door wanted to pop the rear end up, but if i hit the throttle it would rotate REALLY fast so it went wrong the other way... the jump was too small to make more than one correction.... I like bigger jumps better... With all the crashes though, nothing broke or got tweaked, so I'm happy about that....

Alright, I just ran my first 4 tanks. I hit 43mph on tank 4! But how accurate is that?

I have a lot of clicking when I push my truck. What is that? Sometimes is even rolls (which clicking) and then jerks to a stop. Is that bad meshing in the diffs like someone was talking about before?

My cousin was out there breaking in his LRP revo... on tank 7 something happened to his engine. Engine doesn't turn over, just a very rough feeling when spinning the roto. Think it might be conn rod- haven't opened her up yet. How could this happen so fast?

mine did it too... if its jerks to a stop, that could be the brakes out of adjustment. the clicking on on mine was definitely not comming from the diffs, but from the transmission area. After break in though the sound is gone, and it just sounds like any other transmission.....

Hey stealth, I know what you mean about the clicking. . . . . . . . when I move mine around sometimes it sounds really rough and sometimes it's smooth. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. And for the MPH being accurate. . . Yes it has to be. On tank 6-7 mine registered 47. Since then I've only got it up to 44 but I'm still running it rich. I know it's still not getting the best top speed.
As far as the allen wrench fix. . . . . . . . If taken out in one piece the scroll button has 2 tabs on each end. The one on the left is circular and the one on the right is hexagon shape (which is the shape of an allen wrench) and inserts into the scroll mechanism. When it breaks the hexagon part breaks off in the mechanism. I just took the broken piece out, drilled a hole in the center of the scroll button. Then I took an old allen wrench and filed it down to fit the mechanism and cut it so it so it would fit in the hole with about 3/8 inch sticking out and put it back together. I posted about it. If I get a bunch of hits on it I will do a step-by-step with pictures and specific details. Just heard that someone fixed theirs with an allen wrench and I deducted that that was the way to do it.

What the heck is a scroll button! I'm so lost haha.

So you think the clicking is fine for now? It's not my breaks because when i hold WOT (with engine off) and push it, it still does the same thing... Also, the brakes used to work awesome of the 1st tank, how they suck. How did that happen? Grease on the disc? Should the fuel tubbing swap help?

The scroll button is the ribbed button just below the screen on the back of the radio. It's circled in RED.

OH! I thought you were talking about something on the truck. I have never even used it. I need to take a look at the manual so I know how to use it

Anyone have thoughts on this? It happened on my cousins LRP revo when he was breaking in with me. Happened from the engine being flooded and the rotostart not being strong enough. So he took a drill to the roto... I don't know if the metal is mashed, or if the chunks are somewhere. We didn't see anything in the engine. It was never started like this, but did turn over 20 or so times because of the drill...

Yea, don't worry about the noise for now. Give it a couple more tanks. I had to adjust my breaks before I ran it because it didn't want to move. On my 10th tank I had no brakes and had to adjust them again. No biggie, I'll keep adjusting them if I have to. I have a broken rim too I forgot to download. BUt other then all that everything seems to be in order.

as for the brakes... check the end point in your radio, mine was set at 33% brake travel when i got it, so you can increase that some if yours is the same.... But its pretty normal to have to adjust your brakes after the first few tanks as they wear in....

Thanks for the brake info. what would 33% do? I really don't understand all the radio/servo settings. That might be one reason why I have a crazy hard time getting my linkage to give me what I want...

Hope these pics turn out. Here's a couple from yesterday. The broken rim I got, I mistakenly used a MGT8.0 for a speed bump and got airborne 3 feet in the air and landed on this rim. As for the 33% adjustment I could never figure out how I got to where my adjustments are now. I just adjust as I go. It'll prolly all change again next time I run it.

I think you did post these before? I have seen all this pics somewhere already... Did you glue the rim back together?

WoooHooo. Man I was out with some buddies at an old construction site today. Burned about 15 tanks through the truck. What an amazing truck.
I also notice the clicking when I roll the truck forward, but I believe it's the brakes sticking. I noticed towards the end of running most of it is gone now.
Now I've got to clean it all up. It's caked with dirt, it looked new when I brought it out today and now it looks as if it were a few years old.

I guess I might have posted them somewhere. Not sure if I'm going to glue it or not. I've been looking for some bead lock rims. The one tire in the back is starting to come unglued. IDK. . . . .Looking at some on ebay too. I might just buy new ones and keep some spare ones just in case.

If you buy another set... take a look at bobbys.hobbies on eBay.... He's my cousin

I got another question. My cousin and I both are almost done with break in on our LRPs. All we had at the time was 3 qts for traxxas 20%. There is no hobby store within an hour... I'm looking to order more fuel, do we HAVE TO stick with traxxas? I was looking to switch to O'Donnell 20% but I know switching is a no no.... how bad can it be?

It doesn't matter what brand fuel u use. You can go up in nitro content but don't come back down again.

So switching brands doesn't really matter? I've already been told/read not to change. Is traxxas good to use? Any reason I should switch?

I've always read traxxas fuel to be one of the worst to use.... I'll never use it.

I have a feeling that the brakes were the problem all along with mmduc's XXL, he thought it was the diffs and it seems this could've been it! This has been typical with these trucks coming with the brakes out of adjustment and the sound is horrible when trying to roll it with them out of wack. I could see why someone could confuse it for a diff issue if they didnt look into it.....

My guess is that because they use a carbon fiber brake pad instead of the metal pad ( at least on the aftershock they are metal ) they are not as "grabby". The disks are also made of aluminum so the rotational mass is way less, about 1/3 of the original disks weight. It fixed the clicking issue on my aftershock.

I actually had to dial some brake OUT of my Aftershock, after I replaced the burned out throttle servo....I think the servo has more to do with the weak brakes than the disc or pads....I plan to replace my steering servos with JR650s sometime, and one of the 590s that are steering my truck now will become a T/B servo to replace the Futaba 3004 I put in when the stocker went up....
