Exceed FA-18 hook-ups for PNP
I just got my Exceed FA-18 PNP from Nitroplanes. I am waiting on a new reciever for my radio. I was looking at the servo plugs. I figured out the nose wheel plug. There are 3 other Rx plugs numbered 1, 2 and 3 and then the one with the wire wrapped around a metal ring (throttle?). Where in the Rx do they plug in. Doesn`t say in the instructions. Should be a separate note in the PNP version for the rx set-up. I really can`t see up the fuse to tell, I expect a plug for nose, throttle, elevator and ailerons and a plug for power.

This depends upon which transmitter and receiver you use.
TX's and RX can and will vary with their channel assignments.
Your best bet is to hook up a servo to ONE channel on your RX and a separate battery pack.
The move the TX controls until you determine which channel on the TX controls which channel on the RX.
Write that all down.
Then install one lead ( except the throttle lead ) at a time, to figure out which surface the lead controls.
Move it into the right connector and repeat until done.
Finally disconnect the battery and hook up the throttle.

You don't program the ESC for your TX specifically.
You do need to let the ESC detect the throttle range from your TX however.
It is also a good idea to go into the ESC programming and verifying that all the settings are correct... e.g. Timing LOW, etc... as usually they are not, as there is no preset standard for this from the ESC manufacturers.
Most ESC's come set for brushless Outrunner motors however.
There is another thread here where the link for the ESC programming guide is given.

I`d bet it is.. From what I have read, you just need to set your throttle on the Tx to 100%. But I found on my JR that I still needed some minus throttle trim to get the motor to shut down, still putting it together so I have not tried WOT yet.

It is NEVER a good idea to rely upon the ESC settings to be correct as a plane comes.
I've purchased RTF and PNP planes from many different manufacturers.
I rarely find the ESC correctly configured.
The ESC are normally made by a fourth party, who does not know the configuration of the target plane.
The OEM plugs things in, verify that it works but never changes the settings.
And even when they do ( rarely ) the settings can default to the incorrect ESC defaults.
It is ALWAYS preferable to check the settings.
The ESC you save, may be yours.
Remember such minor things such as incorrect timing or incorrect modulation pulse with, can fry your ESC or motor.
I did end up programming the ESC in my F-18.

RE: Exceed FA-18 hook-ups for PNP
I now have my FA-18 all hooked up to my own radio. All seems to work ok.
Now I found another lead (servo lead?) marked with the no. 6 and it is wound around a choke.
I do not see a need for another servo lead. Any ideas?

No rudders on this plane. Nose wheel servo is plugged into the rudder port on rec.
Can not see where the no. 6 plug comes from.

On some of the planes there are provisions for adding optional servos.
It is likely that the extra wire was intended for this.
As long as all of the control surfaces are working properly and is the throttle, you should be fine.
