OS 40 four stroke surpass, idle prob !
Hi,
recently aquired a used OS FS 40 but it seems to have a tick over problem after about 5 mins or so it will stop for no apparent reason ! any clues as to why ? It will restart again but stops abruptly when the glow lead is unclipped !
I changed the plug to the one from an OS 48 FS which cures that problem but still stops after a 5 minute run !!!
What's going on ???

If your O.S. Max FS-40 has had much use, it may be getting worn out. It may be losing compression as it warms up. Worsening idle and transition are the first signs that the engine's compression is starting to go. Compression loss on a four-stroke engine is due to a bad piston/ring/liner fit, and bad valve fit.
Now if your engine starts and then will maintain a continuous idle for five minutes before it quits, then you don't have a problem. That would be oustanding running.

OS40 FS
Hi Bax,
Yeah, I would say this OS has seen more than a few tank fulls !!
The guy I got it from told me it didn't like to tick over for long periods, otherwise runs fine, I searched out this forum and got some more clues from similar problems with other engines, so have a number of checks to perform still.
So is 5 minutes idling good for an "AGEING" engine ? or any FS in general ?
Appreciate your help, Thanks.
