Default FS-40 Surpass FS-40S

Are the FS-40 Surpass and current FS-40S the same engines?

I have an FS-40 Surpass I bought around 1991 or so. There is no part number anywhere on the box or on any of the instruction sheets. The instructions are copyrighted 1987 and include the FS-20 if that helps.

I am wondering if the engine has undergone any changes or if all current parts are interchangeable as I may need a new piston/ring/sleeve (compression seems soft).

I can scan the original boxtop and instruction sheet for identification if that's necessary.

Thanks,
David

The two engines you're asking about are one and the same. Many times, "Surpass" is abbreviated "S". The crankcase should note that the engine is a Surpass engine.
