Default OS 28XZ tech question

hi, because i am in the process of rebuilding my engine, i would like to ask what is the diameter of the crankshaft pin in order to determine if i have to change it or not, and also if there is any acceptable tolerance.thanks

We've not measured the pin. However, if you can see visible movement of the crankpin inside the connecting rod, you need to replace the rod. Observe carefully, though. Many times, oil squeeze is seen as movement. Oil squeeze is OK, but visible movement of the pin in the rod end is not OK.

well i think is the copper bushing of the rod, that is why i am changing the whole set. But i wanted to ask first, you know just in case the pin was out of limits. I suppose it will be though if the new rod has any significant play correct?

The crankpin rarely gets any kind of wear at all. If it's damaged, it's usually because metal from the con-rod gets welded to it when the rod seizes to the crank during an over-rev or overlean condition. The rod is what gets too big for the crank, not the crank wearing out to be too small for the rod.

One last thing. Would you consider a set of ceramic bearings as a valuable change or just a waste of money? Thanks

We cannot comment about them. We've only used the stock bearings as supplied by O.S. With good lubrication and corrosion prevention, they will last many years of normal operation.
