Spinner size for 47" Yak 54??
What size spinners are you guys running on the Yak 54's? I've got a Saito 72 for my Yak and I need a spinner that will work with both my plane and my motor...
Thx in advance,
BK

I prefer the Dubro aluminum spinner nuts. Just enough to fit a starter and no hassle removing them when you break the prop
Matt
The 72 uses the 7mm size.

Inserts for starters come in a variety of shapes. If yours has a large opening it may not work as well as it could. Turning the insert around backward may help or you can get one made for spinner nuts. I don't think OMP sells inserts, so maybe they will not mind me posting a link to the insert on Tower's site.

Thanks for watching out for me. I would have been wondering... I'll get one on order ASAP.
Say, how hard are 4 stroke motors to hand prop? Will it start like my DA?

My Saito 100 starts easily by hand. Rather than flipping the prop like a two stroke, I have better luck grasping the spinner, or spinner nut, between my thumb and fingers, and in a motion like snapping your fingers, twist the spinner backward against the compression stroke. When it hits the compression it starts right up. An added benefit is you do not have to put your fingers in a position where the prop can hit them.
I have a spinner on mine right now, but I have used a spinner nut in the past. Four strokes are more prone to throw props than two strokes, so I used a Higley Light Lock with my spinner nut. The Light Lock goes on first, then you tighten the spinner nut up against the Light Lock.

Why do they throw props? Do you use any locktite on the nut? The starting method sounds cool. I'll have to give it a try...

The prop throwing happens when the engine backfires. The link above will take you to a thread about this in the glow engine forum.
I don't use locktite, but I have thrown a prop with a light lock and spinner nut. I've never thrown one with a jam nut and an aluminum spinner, but that is a $50+ setup, vs $10 for a Light Lock & spinner nut.
