Should my friend get her 12 year old son a Super Cub for Christmas? ? ? (I told her yes but ONLY if he RE-Solders new tx, rx, replaces fuselage, wings, wheels, and puts ailerons, new servos, brushless motor, and new 4 foot prop on it. As long as the child can do ALL of this, he will enjoy his super cub.)
Merry Christmas everybody. : )

Ha! Ha! It won't fly right without a new paint job. That's already been proven too. Hey I set up a poll.
Take the Super Cub POLLand share with RCU what we'd like to do with this thread.

Hi All
I hope everyone had a nice and safe Christmas.
I finally decided that the air flow to the rudder on the SC crop duster wasn't quite enough. I increased the dihedral and added ailerons, APC 10 x 7 prop. High speed taxi and lift off run down my driveway proved successful. flew it abt 150 ft and it tracked true, no left banking. I was not happy with the slow take off. must be weight
Overall a good mod though

I cut a small wedge out of each side on top of the SC wing where the original dihedral starts. I then pulled them up and glued with Gorilla glue

in fact flight will be more stable. but ailerons will not work as it supouse ... thats only my opinion. if you can correct the left bank without add more diedral i think will be better or try to eliminate complete and made the wing straight level.
I whant to see it flying.. what are you waiting to post the vid .

Daxfx here is a good anology of why low wing airplanes have more dihedral. look at your Focus 400

that is bad for ailerons, too much and aileron will work like V-tail rudder. will not be level when roll. why you add more?

here are some interesting prop size results for the SC that I found on another thread.
Stock SC using a 7 cell NiMh through my wattmeter, on the stock 10x8 prop
1/2 throttle... 3150 rpm... 8.1v... 4.5 amps... 36 watts
Full throttle... 3750 rpm... 6.9v... 7.9 amps... 54 watts
Using a ThunderPower 3s 1320mAH Li-Po:
Castle Creations Pixie 20P ESC
GWS 10x6 DD prop
Full throttle = 6700 rpm
Volts = 10.9
Amps = 8.4
Watts = 91.3
Slow cruising speed is 4 clicks under half throttle = 3750 rpm
Volts = 10.5 (This was at the end of the flight)
Amps = 2.1
Watts = 22
All the above is using the stock Super Cub brushed motor.

I have the SC Duster all ready to go hope do the full flight this weekend w/vids. The final dihedral came out to be 2.5" measured at the wing tips. My final high speed taxi came out good. The plane lifted off and tracked straight. All were test hops of abt 150'
Hope you get you low winger up when you get back home

Most low wing aircraft have some form of dihedral except a lot of military planes which are midwings.
In full size airplanes each design has is advantages and disadvantages. High-wing aircraft tend to be more stable, as the wings are above the center-of-gravity, but low-wing aircraft can compensate with higher wing dihedral angles. High-wing aircraft can rely upon gravity to feed fuel from the tanks in the wings down to the engine, whereas low-wing aircraft need fuel pumps to draw the fuel up from the tanks to the engine. High-wing planes make it easier to observe the ground; low-wing planes make it easier to see the sky and to watch where you are going while turning. Low-wing planes have longer, smoother landings than high-wing planes. You don't have to worry about bumping your head when walking around a low-wing plane, and you don't need to climb a ladder to fill the tanks.

huston we got problems..... bad bad bad bad. I totally destroy my first cessna. it was the cessna 745 3 channel. as cool as the SC this is the second big crash on this one and I dont think it can handle another repair there are too many foam parts missing, just desintagrated .. was awesome to see that I was trying the plane after the first crash this was the first flew after rebuild (and the last) . was very real scale crash less the fire.
now I have all the electronic to mount'em on another body.

This is Houston we copy that. And report the Super Cub flew Christmas day on Lipo but couldn't catch up to Santa Clause. So he did 5 consecutive loops and called it a day.
