Having Problems
Hey Everyone. I currently own a Parkzone J-3 Cub. I've had it for about a year and a half now and the first problem just arose. [&o]It will go to full power for about 2 seconds and then shut off. I bought a new battery thinking that the old one had gone bad since I hadn't flown it in a few months. But, it still does the same thing. Could it be the motor, ESC, or the charger that is causing this problem? Thanks!

RE: Having Problems
I would think charger or esc. It sounds like the auto cutoff is engaging to soon. You said it souded a little weak which makes me think the battery isnt getting a full charge. My f-27b (towards the end of its life about 1 and a half year) The charger would say the battery was done but the battery was still cold. I would unplug it and get it to charge again. Eventually it would "catch" and charge for a good 40 mins and get warm. I would get a second opinion before buying anything. Is the battery warm after the charge is done? Hope this helps.

RE: Having Problems
Oh yeah when I put the battery in cold it was weak and would only run the motor for about 30 secs and you could hear the motor get weaker and weaker till the the motor cut off and I was left with just surface controls.

RE: Having Problems
Ok, tried charging the battery again. After 25 minutes I went out to check it. The charger indicated that it was done........ It's suppose to charge for at least 40 minutes. Also the battery was cold. So, all I have to do is get a new charger?

RE: Having Problems
The advice given so far appears to be spot on. And you should be congratulated for keeping a PZ Cub together that long.
Another word of advice. Buy an Astro or Watt meter, will tell you everything you need to know about your planes motor/pack status. Simple plugging the pack in to it would have told you that the pack wasn't fully charged.
The meter is probably the most important tool for electric flying.

RE: Having Problems
Is it a wall charger or the dc cigarette lighter style charger?
If it is a wall charger then try a get the other dc style charger. If you have the dc charger then it should come with a knob to increase the mah charge rate, it should be above 0.8 but less than 1.1 for the best results
Hope it works out.
P.S. It is a NiMH battery? If so then try and drain battery as much as possible by keeping it to just below half throttle. If the motor cuts out then let the battery cool down before charging. This will hopefully solve the problem.
Good Luck

RE: Having Problems
The battery is a Ni-Mh and the charger is a DC peak charger. I've never had any problems with it until now. Already have a new charger on the way. Thankyou all again for your help.

RE: Having Problems
Well, I got the new charger and it works great, now giving the Cub 15 minute flight times. Thankyou very much for your help everyone.
