Saito.72 vs YS.63
Is there any fuel draw problems with the Saito when you use the wing mounted fuel tank on a profile model? How long of a fuel draw can you have without any problems? Thanks for the input. Tom

Well I have just a little work to finish my Sledge 540, and I've got the YS.63 on order. I was told the first of June for the YS, but I've not seen it yet. I may get tired of waiting and get a Saito.72 instead. I was just thinking down the road I might want to build an airplane with a cg mounted fuel tank. I think the YS might be better for this. Tom

I have it on order from my LHS, but it will come from Horizon. I try to do as much business with my LHS as I can, and only go mail order if I can't get it there. In most instances he matches mail order price, and sometimes beats it. It really depends on how much business you do with him. For some stuff he ships to people all over the country. Tom

I changed my mind this morning , and I'm going with the Saito.72. This came about after reading a new post in YS engine forum. It seems that there is sometimes trouble with the engine on the wooden mounts of a profile type plane. The LHS has the Saito in stock. Tom

Saito.72 vs YS.63
YS .53 on my Top Cap. I had to sand the engine mounts slightly in order to fit the engine.
The only fuel-related problem I had was a deadstick due to the fuel line flying off the engine intake nipple while rolling violently I added two fuel line clips and no problems since.

I have a ys 63 on a su-do-khoi and it is an awsome plane. More power than I will ever need. After running a ys engine it is hard to run OS or saito. Both of which are very good but YS is just a notch above!

I assume your talking about the sledge 540 you are about to complete. The YS 63 would really be way overkill. Mine weighs about 4.5 lbs and hovers easily at 1/2 to 2/3 throttle with an irvine 53.
I am actually going to try a tower 46 2 stroke on it as I really dont need quite all the power the 53 has. The saito 72 should be awesome. My advise would be to put sping clamps on each end of the pressure fuel line.

Well not knowing when the YS would get here I went with the Saito.72. I spent this afternoon breaking in the engine, and should be ready to fly tomorrow. I will post some pictures under a different post soon. Smallfly if you are going to New Albany this weekend You can see it there. Tom

I had about 1/2 gallon of fuel mixed up for break-in. It was 10% 2 cycle with some extra oil added in. The book says 40 minutes of run time before flying, and I have close to an hour. I plan on flying today if the wind calms down. Tom
