Yeah, I didn't realize, there is no plane named there, just the description. The EF Edge?

Can I just dial 1-800-get-eyes? I don't seen the name of a plane next to #5... It's early though, maybe a bit more coffee...

If he did mean the EF Edge to go there, I'd say it's about right. The Kat seems to snap and tumble tighter, but describing the Edge as "looser in the air" wouldn't be far off. IMHO.

I'll add that the EF Edge has the best KE capability of any plane I've flown. The Kat is really (really) great, by my EF was dead neutral, even in KE loops.

I have to agree with everyone's assessment of the EF Edge. I have two of them (one 2 stroke, one 4 stroke) and I like them alot, but I wouldn't recommend this plane as a 3D trainer. If you want to stick with an ARF, then I would wait for the OMP Edge. If you don't mind building a kit, then order the Edge kit or a Burrito kit from Paul Swany. I'm on my second Burrito, and I can tell you that this is the easiest plane that I've ever had the pleasure to build, and it flies great. I'm not knocking the OMP Edge, but I've never built or flown one, so I don't feel qualified to comment on it. I do hear that it is a very good 3D trainer, so I don't think that you'll go wrong with it either.

Well, I guess I'll just go with a Katana ARF now, and get a OMP edge kit, then go with a Edge ARF when they come out. Aw heck, its only money right?
I like to tease my wife sometimes about how much money I spend on my hobby. I tell her "Money is like manure. It aint no good unless you spread it around", to which she replies "thats right, you spread it to thin and it aint like havin any at all"
I cant never win

Is the build on the burrito easier than the build on the newer foam fuse OMP Edges?

A Burrito builds as easy as a paper airplane. Simple simon.

I have a 47" Yak kit, and by looking at the instructions the Burrito seems to be a slightly easier build. Matchlessaero built, covered, and test flew a Burrito in something like 12 hours (?) or so once. His build thread may be here on RCU if you want to do a search. If not, then it's on the Pro Bro site. It's definitely the easiest build that I've ever done!

Well I've had enough........I just ordered a OMP 540 Edge kit and a set of Carbon Fiber Gear for it.
This will be my first 3D Profile, after many Warbirds .40 to 1.50 scale and a just purchased H-9 Edge 25%.
I had to have one of these profiles.
I've watched the guys with the big 3D ships get there foamys out for a tuneup before the big wood go's up... BUT sorry guy's i'm not baggin on the elec stuff...... I just need to smell and hear what i'm flyin..

I have a damm near new Magnum .46 and a few Hitec HS 85's for this Edge..will the .46 be enough to haul this around OK ?? at 4-4.5lbs??
I think what got me going on these profile's was looking at some threads here on RCU.. and seeing the Wild covering jobs you guys put on them... Way Cool..

I'll take any help I can get to keep it in the air and setup. I bet this thing is going to be a blast

Joe

Another Profile Brother![8D] Your .46 should be fine with the right prop. And lose the baffle. With the help of the Bros, and others, you will do fine here.

You've made a wise choice getting the Edge. We also will have OMP hardware packs for .40 size planes now. I'll have the specs up tomorrow. But here is a pic of the contents. All hand picked by Mike and come with CF control horns which are really sweet. You also got a free pair of Tetherite, but since you got CF gear too, you'll have a great back up.

Metal torque rod between the halves. I prefer that style as you don't have the large wedge cutout in the back of the fuselage and I find it more durable as it will absorb some hits of the elevator without breaking the joints.

If you're going to use the small servos, then I'd suggest running metal gear servos. That way you'll be less likely to strip a gear when you make a less than perfect landing (or hover, or harrier, or, well, you get the idea! ).

So far I would say that most people are saying the EF Edge ARF is slighty different than the OMP Edge kit as far as the beginner 3D pilot is conserned. Eh?
But for the more advanced 3D pilot the EF is a rock solid performer. Would anyone agree?
Just asking, I dont wanna get flamed.
That was the original topic.

Thanks for the replys to my questions,AFSalmon & Razorback58.
I got cheap and didnt go the MG mini servos 5bucks more EA ???... went the HS85BB for all the surface's. I can see the need for MG for the guys good enough to tail tap.. I'll have more space under me, like 20 feet or more at least for awhile. the dorks will come I'm sure....
Torch rod is cool... get both elev.'s set flat together, I can deal with that. One servo one way(Rud) one the other (elev).
I'll imbed the thott. servo in a notch.....Yep!!! This will be a fun one. A little off track from my Warbirds, but I can't wait to do some totally of the wall covering job.

Do not use plastic gear mini servos on any of these planes. You will strip the gears and loose the plane. The plastic gears are much too small to handle the loads. It's all about surface area of the gear train. Use the plastic gear minis in smaller electric planes only or use them for throttle servos.

I agree with Mike. The plastic gear servos are not strong enough for a plane with this kind of surface area. I've heard of people stripping gears simply by bumping a rudder or elevator on their car door getting them out at the field! Do yourself a favor and either use metal gear servos or at least full size servos.
