Default Hangar 9 Funtana .40????

How much more difficult could it be to add the wing root faitings which are the definitave part of a Funtana/Katana? Without the wing root fairings it looks like any other Extra/Edge/CAP, and just plain does not look like a Funtana.

BTW: My 78 inch Funtana in the picture in my previous post, is ELECTRIC powered..... New 30 cell Hacker motor, but lithium polymer batteries for 25+ minute flight times

Default Hangar 9 Funtana .40????

i have Ben reading threads on the funtana and ppl are saying that theirs ready to fly with a saito 72 in it comes in at just under 5 lbs.i saw a vid of the thing flying in pretty Gusty winds and it still looked like a rocken plane!!. i ordered mine and should have it soon. i'm gonna put a YS 63 in it, not to much power but still lotts for it.i think anything bigger than a saito 72 is to much. the control surfaces are huge and will flutter ur plane apart if u go much bigger. the bottom of the plane is covered in clear yellow so if u aren't shur of how strong its built u can look in and take a peak. i like the looks of the funtana and i think it has a nice look with the white covering. but thats just me

Default Hangar 9 Funtana .40????

I just got my Funtana and was wondering if anyone has built it and uses a 2-Stroke for power. If so, what size did you go with? I think that it is too large of a plane for a .46 to do anything 3D with. Would a .61 do the job? I know everything you do adds weight and there is where you start shooting yourself in the foot. What about the O.S. 50SX or the Magnum XLS-52?

Default U-Can-Do-3D-.46

I have the UCD in the .46 size. I have an OS-70 swinging an APC 12x6 prop. This is more than enough and the thought of the Saito .91 or 100 sounds good, but it would require a hefty investment in lead for the tail.

The Saito .91 weighs 2 ounces LESS than the OS .70 Surpass 2.

OS .70 - 20.65 ounces w/muffler
Saito .91 - 18.59 ounces w/muffler.

Default U-Can-Do-3D-.46 Specs.

Wingspan: 56.75 inches
Length: 58.5 Inches
Wing Area: 904 Sq. Inches
Wing Loading according to manual: 12.7-14.3 oz/sq ft
Weight per manual: 5lbs-5lbs 10oz I haven't weighed mine- no scales.

A word to the wise- If your going to use a Tru-Turn Spinner then check out this URL:
http://www.truturn.com/cgi-bin/store...exact_match=on[/URL]

I ordered the one recommended in the manual and the largest APC prop that would fit was a 11x4.

I hope this helps!

Default Funtana Hanger 9

Funtana fans,
I just purchased a Funtana but haven't had the time to put it together..My impressions of the plane were , it appeared to be very light construction, but well constructed. That opinion could change as it goes together.. It appears large for a 46 but if I can keep it light I will probably put a Thunder Tiger 46 on it ..
Several of you have mentioned a "BA import".. Pardon my stupidity, what is that?

Default Funtana Wing

The Funtana's wing is already joined and the belly pan is installed. You need to glue in the wing dowels and screw it in place.
