Glow plugs going out too fast
Could the wrong type of fuel cause glow plugs to go out immediately once you try and run a car? If so, do any of you think running Trinity Nitro Power Platinum, 20% race blend in a Hyper 7 PBS would cause the glow plugs to go out right away?
I know that glow plugs would also go out very fast if the mixture is too lean. For the factory settings it says I need to put the barrel stop at 1/16th air gap. How many turns is that?

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
I checked for any air leaks, couldn't find any. I tried another mc9 and that one blew as well. I have the second plug that came with the car, I'm gonna try that one soon. I'm still thinking that it's the needle settings, but the friend I am with won't let me touch them at all

an Air leak is a good guess
so is it's running to lean
What does the plug look like when it comes out of the engine?
is the engine new, is this the break in we're talking about?
The MC9 is a cold plug, I use the mc9s with 30% nitro in my buggy and Dominator
and the mc59 with 20% nitro, the mc9 shouldn't be going out early. I usally geat about 7-10 runs on a plug before they start getting bad.

I use the O'donnel 099 plugs in my Rody tuned Rb Concept C5 buggy engine and they seem to last for ever. I just change them out every race. Try them and see if the problem continues

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
scale, it's not running at all. I'll start it on the bumpbox but it will turn a couple times at most and stop. The flywheel just stops dead in it's tracks and won't budge. From my limited knowledge, it seems like it's a combustion thing.
The plug, when I take it out of the engine, is wet with fuel. Not soaking wet but it has fuel on it nonetheless. The engine is new, but it has already been broken in by the former owner.
I'm going down to my local hobby shop tomorrow, I'm taking the car with me to see if they might be able to figure out why the flywheel stops and won't budge when the piston reaches the high point in the rotation.

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
now its flooded, turn it over with the plug out to get rid of the extra fuel thats locking it up. Then put the plug back and she should start.

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
from your new disrciption it does sound flooded, but also the hyper 8 ports are very tight engines until you get about 5-6 tanks of fuel through them. The piston locking up at TDC(top dead center) is very comon with a new engine. It's not only compression that makes the engine tight, but "Fit". Fit is the piston/sleeve having almost zero tolerance at TDC, this loosens up after break in.
Are you saying you can't get it to run because the box won't turn ober the engine at all?
I thought you were have glow plugs going out?
Or do you have both problems?
If i was running 20% I'd use a mc59, it's a little hotter of a plug
Also try polstery's suggestion, take the plug out and put it on the starter box until fuel stop coming out of the engine. Then I would put the neddles back to factory settings and start over. Keep in mind the factory setting are for the break in so it will be very rich,
When you try to start it again,if you can, get the wheel spinning before you push the car all the way down, do this in short pushes. When I was breaking in mine, I had to push down on the box and pull the pull start cord to get it to turn over. Now that I have about 10 tanks and one race day it turns over on the box very easy.
good luck

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
ive seen it done. in fact i had over 3 gallons on my novarossi c-6 plug in the P-5 motor before i changed it (including break-in!). i never changed it because i wanted to see how long it would last, but we had a big race coming up so just to be safe i changed it.
i used to go through the plugs like everyone else and then i learned how to tune a motor. that really helped.

Come on?? No way
Not even the best plug in the most perfectly tuned engine can make this claim

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
The glow plugs going out too fast was my original problem, but I figured out why it was doing that and fixed it. But now I have this new problem where the box won't turn over the engine when it reaches TDC. I'm definately going to get some different glow plugs when I go to the hobby store today.

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
I bought some MC59 plugs today. They glow normally. Here's my current problem. I can start it going while on the bumpbox just fine. But as soon as I let up on the bumpbox, it dies. I can't seem to get it to go on it's own. Any ideas?

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
*sigh* I don't have the faintest idea why this still isn't working. Tried both the MC8 and MC59 glow plus, with both plugs the engine didn't turn over on it's own. Once the ignitor charges back up I will try the MC9.
When I have the glow plug out, the engine will turn over just fine. When the glow plug is in, I have to make sure it's at the bottom of the cycle. I know that's because the engine is tight, but this engine was already broken in when I got it.
I do have one question though. On the idle screw, it says the factory default is 1/16th air gap. Where exactly am I looking to make sure it is 1/16 air gap?

RE: Glow plugs going out too fast
Just found out from the owner that he had installed a OS 20E carb on the Hyper .21. Only reason I didn't see this right away was because I was under the impression it was still the stock one.

OK, laymans terms
take off the air filter and look inside the barrel/venturi, you'll see a large hole when open/full throttle and a small sliver of that hole when closed/at idle. that sliver of an opening is what they are talking about. that is adjusted with a screw on the side of the carb body
