RE: Not a boat but hand crafted
Welllll .... not sure ... but I gotta say this ...
Someone has too much time on their hands ....
I know that booger had to take some time ....
Now ... since we already got one joking question , what the heck ,
is it RC ?
Nice .... but just curious ... why ? The challenge ? Or maybe for ?

I built this crane for the company I work for. They wanted a scale model to display for the customers. Brother-n-law took a look at it, and said he wanted me to build this scale Manitowoc 4100.
Yes it floats...LOL...100% wood.

Looks great and I know that you put many hours into building it. I spent many, many years chasing the old headache ball around on offshore drilling rigs. I see that you are from New Iberia. I attend some IMPBA boat races in Baker, La, Slidell, La., and Durant Ms. and meet several boat builders and racers from your area: great people to be around. Do you recall the center of gravity on your airboat? I am getting close to the point where I will be mounting my engine and don't know what is the best CG for an airboat. I use 30% or so from the transom to the CG on my race boat but am not at all sure this works for an airboat.

as for CG on the air boats I don't put all that much, concern in it. But what is more important, you want to set the engine so that it is lifting the rear of the boat just a little. It depends on your boat as for how much. The reason for it, you want the boat to have like a pivot point to turn on. It also helps it from blowing over on the SAW. Also it helps it to have a real good land take of.
Did you make the last Baker race? I was there, not racing, but pitting for a few guys. There will be another race there the begining of Feb. If I get paid for the offshore model crane in time, I will be there. Need a new servo for the 40 canard. Wife said can't hit the check book for the hobby for a little while(beaitch LOL)
As for the hours, I put more into the boats(less forgiven)

Yes, I was at the Baker races and also not running. I had to carry an engine that locked up on me while I was starting it and give to to the engine builder for overhaul. The throttle screw had worked lose while running and the next time I tried to run it, the screw got sucked into the engine and broke piston skirt and damaged the head. I may be at the next Baker race-haven't decided yet. At the last race I took some pictures of the 12 year boy that raced with his scratch built wood vee hull made by his grandfather. I love those wood boats. At the next race they are going to have a stock class that will be nice, makes me wish that my engine wasn't modded. I got some of my ideas at the race by talking to the man that had the large scale airboat that was right behind the racers stand in Baker. They put on a good race and I have a great time just going. You need to come to The Mississippi Model Boaters race in Durant. Thanks for info-John

I went to the first race of that club, took 3rd in the B hydros. The kid you are talking about is from here also. His grandfather Van and I get together every now and then. Van has been building for many years and I have just started a few years ago.
I'm planning to go back to Durant to run my canard after I work a few more bugs out of it.
If I go you and I need to have a hill climbing race with the airboats....LOL
