Default outboards.

Does the exhaust from nitro outboards exit below the water ? If it does are they quieter ? I would like to have an outboard but our pond is surrounded by condos and unless they run very quietly I would be in a heap of trouble. The people in charge of our lake say it's OK to run fuel power if they don't make noise.

they usually exit above the waterline. But there are some excellent quite pipes for outboards now. I am not sure how quiet you need it. But the quiet pipe that cooper puts out is the one of the most quiet that i now of. Ken

Graupner makes electric outboards from medium to huge. Should be able to find one that suits your needs:

Scroll about 1/2 way down the page.

The new K&B outboards have a can muffler the is above the waterline, they are quieter than the old one that exited below the waterline by about 10 db and have more power.

Thanks for the replies. I may have to get one just to see if I get any complints. If necessary I'll get a quiet pipe.

Even with a quiet pipe a nitro outboard engine is loud and very screamy! If the neighbors are within 50 feet of the pond, your days with that setup most likely be numbered if you go out a lot. But nitro engines are so great when it comes to performance! If you are new to the hobby. you might start out with the above mentioned Graupner outboard and go quiet - run fast and often!
