electric motor care
hi!
how do you take care of your electric motors? i have just found out that the rotor had rusted. my motor got wet the last time i ran it, and when i take it apart, found rust. do i sand it? alcohol wont take all the rust away.
and also, whats the preventive measure to make sure the motor wont rust again, after running?
thanks!

I would just use some electric motor spray. If your motor gets wet every time you run I would suggest spraying it out after every day of use. The chemicals in the spray will displace any moisture that is inside. You should also oil the bearings or bushings after you spray it because the cleaners will remove whatever oil is on them. I hope this helps.

If you can take the motor apart then sand the rotor lightly to get the rust off. Be careful not to sand any of the insulation off of the wires. Then tape off the commutator and the motor shafts and spray some clear polyurathane, a light coat over the rotor. This will help the rust from forming again. After each run spray the motor down with WD-40 or some other water dispersing chemical. After that oil the motor bearings on each end and turn the motor over a few times to distribute the oil.
