Default gas boat drive unit question

Hi All,
I am new to the gas boat scene but have been rc'ing for a long time. I just picked up a rtr package from a fellow on internet. I noticed when I slide the flex cable in all the way there is about a 1/4" space left between the back of prop shaft and the flex cable housing unit. (I am pretty sure I probably didnt get these hardware names right but hopefully you guys know what I am talking about). Should I snip a little flex cable so this meets flush or is this space suppose to be there?

Thanks a bunch,
Mike

Default answer

leave the space its there to make up for the flex of your motor mounts. if you cut it, it will put all the stress on the strut

It is there for a reason,When the flex shaft turns it tightens up and gets shorter.Leave a 3/16" spacing for this or the drive dog will eat the strut up.Chris

Are you using teflon washers in between the dog and the strut? That helps it even more.
