Autocad....but so far I'd still have to program the CNC so I'm trying to figure out a way to convert it to the language the CNC understands so I only have to draw it once.Would it be for an RS4 3?

I'm not sure what the code for the CNC is but I probably won't be doing a bunch of custom ones..not yet anyway until I figure out a fast way to program it.Heres a pic of where I'm at now though.

I'd do those cause I have one...if I get the CNC to do it its not much harder to make 10 than one.Maybe a Savage too cause I plan on getting the SS when it comes out.

I used transfer punches that are the same size as the holes in the original chassis, but they all make the same size divot in the metal so you have a good pinpoint for drilling.I screwed the original to the piece of stock so it wouldn't move when I used the punches, then I took it off and drilled a pilot hole with a real small center drill in all the holes so it would be right...bigger bits like to "walk"when you use a hand drill.I went back and opened all the holes to the right size and countersunk the bigger ones so I doubt its off enough to matter if any.As long as yo go easy with the drill and take your time you should have no problem, just use the old chassis as a pattern and bolt it down at each end so it cant move. The hardest part is the outside shape..I have alot of hand filing to do.

I got it bent and all the rough edges filed down...its ready to go but I'm gonna have it powdercoated so it'll be a day or two before I can start bolting stuff down. Was thinkin about trying to do some polished aluminum flames on it but it'd have to be raw metal cause I can't figure out how to blend the edge of the powdercoat...buffing whel on a Dremel maybe.I'm probably just gonna powdercoat it blue and do some raw aluminum accents...we'll see in a couple days.

you can bend it with an Aluminum "Break" as they call it... all it is, is almost a long clamp which has teeth in it to hold onto the aluminumn, and it has a lever which lifts the material and bends it along the edge of the teeth.

Haha,I got a funny story about the Brake. When I went to bend it yesterday I scratched my line and took it to the hand brake, which has a table and shoes that clamp it down with a lever on each side.I clamped it on the line and started to push the lever that tilts the edge of the tablenext to the clamp and it popped out,hit the table next to the brake and bounced around on the concrete. All I lost was a little metal off the nose but I figured out that was a bad idea trying to make that little bend on a hand brake.I ended up doing that on the hydraulic brake with a small, maybe 3/8 shoe and after I did it I noticed I bent em the wrong way so I put it back in there and bent it the other way.I got a couple extra grooves and it probably weakened it some but it looks fine.DOH!
Thanks to everyone posting, cool to see some interest and hopefully it'll be helpful if you go about it yourself.I'll try to get it powdercoated soon dan

Uh Oh......look what I figured out. Please excuse my sorry freehand flames but it was just a test to see if it worked and...Success!!! Brushed Flames!!!Imagine a chassis covered in flames(or anything else really) and then powdercoated with a transparent Candy Blue. You could still see the metal and it'd be way tougher than anodizing

Nice Grayfox, what car are you making it for?I had an idea about the bends the other day but your chassis might not have bends.Instead of trying to bend the CF on the edges(pretty much impossible) I would bolt square alum. rails on each side and countersink the holes so it cannot move.

im making my own design for the chassis. as for cutting it i have a friend that can cut it for me. my friends works with all most the same material so he can cut it then heat it up to seal off the newly cut edges. and i most likely wont bend the edges but if i did i would have to heat it up once Agna

Thanks Rex,you've got great taste (Avatar) so I appreciate that.
My flames didn't come out as bad as I thought they would, but I had to draw about 5 versions before it looked right.
