Default Hpi baja question

This is my 1st gas rc buggy but not my 1st gas rc engine. Im used to airplanes. My question is this, why is there that plastic cover on the rear of the cylinder head? Wouldnt it cool better if the rear of it were removed? Plus much easier to clean out the leaves & crap. Anyone?

The flywheel has a fan cast into it, which spins and creates airflow. The plastic shroud directs the airflow over the cylinder to help cool it.

Exactly those leaves and crap made me do this; cut it in half ont the middle of the hole for the plug. Found a heap of grass and leaves under it when i removed it.

Have you checked your temps since you did this? Any difference?

Haven't checked anything, but atleast it didn't made it any worse. There are many more who have done this aswell, atleast here in Norway where i got the tip about this.

You dont really need to worry about engine temps in these cars as long as the gearing is right. Set it and forget it.

You guys are aware that cleaning the debris out of the shroud is normal maintenance, right? Caring for a 5B engine is identical to caring for your weed eater or lawn mower seeing as the 5B engine is so similar. Sure it's ported differently and made of different materials, but it's cooled the same way, it's operated in the same types of environments and it often has a ton of load put on it, and hell it's even constructed similarly. Reed valve two strokes are built similarly regardless of whether or not they're a wimpy little 1HP Ryobi or a 5+HP Fuelie. So of course it needs the same maintenance.

Wouldn't that saturate with heat pretty easily? I know my baja ran really hot... I'm sure an aluminum shroud would heat the air being blow on the cylinder.
