This thread makes me realize how lucky I was. I grew up working on the family cattle and horse farm. By the time I was 13-14 I did most of the maintenance on the tractors and other equipment. I got my first motorcycle when I was 14. A basket case BSA. I learned a lot from putting it together and getting it running.
Looking back I guess my father didn't have a lot of rules. He just wanted me to learn to be self sufficient and exercise good judgement. (I wasn't always that good at the later.
At any event when you become 18 there is nothing to stop you from taking off on your own if that is what you want.

, at least not in your situation. These guys have suggested a fools endeavor, obviously disregarding this is 14 yr old vs father, not another situation. Blackmail is for those too weak-minded to make a better way. Blackmail is.....weak, and a last ditch effort in any situation. There is much less honor in it, as well, as there would be to figuritivly hit this one face to face.

So electronics are supposed to last forever!? Ask him if he has ever replaced a TV,washer,dryer,dishwasher,heat pump,phone or even a light.If those ELECTRONICS never broke life would be a lot easier.I am really sorry to hear your situation.You remind me of my nephew.

Your right it is tough.Tommorow is his 18th birthday and I hope the things I've tought him along with other friends and family will keep him on the straight and narrow.His mother is much like your father from what I have read in this and other threads.She just doesn't get it and sees herself in a different light.Just bide your time because you will have your day soon enough.

you know, if you move out soon enough, you get to do whatever you want whenever you want. After working 16 hours for $8.00 an hour at two different jobs, to pay your own rent, food, power, water, gas, sewer, trash pick up, transportation, medical, dental and taxes. Yep, hurry up and move out to be FREE. Just think of all the motors you will be able to buy.
