Default Cheap Chinese / Taiwanese drifters......pls comment

I'm new to drifting world. Before moving out to kits like TT-01, I thought I'd give it a shot with some cheap, off the shelf drift cars. I just bought the "Kentoys" drift machine Skyline GT-R. It's a RTR, die-cast model which comes with rear differential gears and drift and race tires.

The race tires are real good and the speed is also very decent. However, the drift tires pretty much just spin the car. I've been trying to drift on my marble floor but not successful at all. The car is too small to run on road (1:24).

Please help! what surface should I practice on? Also, are these chinese cars really worth anything? I know they cant compete with Tamiya's and all, but for now, I just want a flavor.

Here's a pic of the product for your comments [link]http://www.hipernex.com/pro.aspx?CID=1583&IID=14847#[/link]

I have a feeling it wont drift.. it may not have enough power to induce a slide..

In order to Drift it needs torque to get the Wheels to spin, to break traction and start the drift..

A TT-01 Would have been a wiser move..

You say the drift tyre just spin the car, Try a basic tail out..

Get the car up to speed, let go of the trigger and turn sharply, and nail it again instantly..

So, Squeeze ,flick Squeeze..

i agree with what Magnat is saying, and also on alot of those types of car the motor is right at the back rather than in the middle, this would result in the back of the car sliding out as the car wouldnt be balanced,
and just to make sure.. it is 4WD isnt it??

It probally will drift, in my oppinion. It won't drift like D1, but you will get your money's worth. Trughtfuly though I think you should save your money. If you spend your money on that you might grou attached and buy upgrades, if it has upgrades. That would only put you fruther away from getting a 1/10 scale drift because you used your money for that. But yes, it deffently will drift... or should.

Sorry, Iforgot to anwer the original question (^_^). You should probally drift on a pretty smoth surface like a hard wood or marble floor. I am not shure if it will work smothly in a parking lot. But you would impress me if you could.

well, for one thing......it ain't 4wd!
secondly, i have a full marble floor in my apartment and that is toooooooo smooth.......the car just makes donuts or spins 180 very easily.
I was able to drift a bit after practicing for about 2 hrs but nothing impressive.

I'm thinking of trying on my parking lot, concrete floor. will post about it too. I have my mind made up for TT-01 but not till i'm atleast a couple of months old in the drifting world.

Meanwhile, I would love to have any guidance / tips for now and also for the future.

if your car isnt 4WD u will have to put some weight to the front of the car to make it go sideways, if you look at a real drift car(RWD) the heavy engine is at the front. even if you get the balance perfect it will still be extremly hard to maintain a controled slide but you know whay they say... practice practice practice..

I Say get the TT-01 now..

Your not going to get too far in the RC Drift World without an AWD..

Only Advice for now, learn basic car control as with a 1:24 Die Cast RWD, thats about all you will be able to do..

And out of the 1000+ posts, 950+ were about how the TT-01 is the international drift standard, according to him.

Well guys...............I finally managed to convince my wife into letting me spend money on TT01 (i thought that was the difficult part), and finally went to a Tamiya dealer to buy the TT01

BUT

turns out its not at all as cheap as you guys mentioned above............

the kit costs around $110, controller another $110, and the body comes next......around $50 to the least. so the whole deal comes to around $275 atleast!!

now thats the amount of money i donot want to spend right now.........

any other ideas guys?? i saw a really interesting drift video of a TA-05 on youtube....

no idea about the price though........i would love to have something for around $100 including EVERYTHING (Controller, body, chassis.......whatever)

I dont think you will get a car RTR under 100's..that is worthy of drifting
Get the TT-01 rtr its only 130 on towerhobbies

What if you searched towerhobbies for an "easypay" item? I was having the cash problem too and I ended up getting (still waiting to get here) an electric Traxxas 4WD 4-tec w/ ESC RTR Combo. The reason I settled with that for a beginner car is they allow you to make 3 monthly payments of $70.33 USD each. So this way if you can make all three payments within 2 months (one month ahead of schedule) and manage to keep the 4-tec boxed up...just return it for store credit and get the TT-01 or whatever else you may have in mind.....Just a thought.

Don't waste your money on Tyco grade stuff.

Save your money now because it will last a lot longer.

The money you will spend on this Wal Mart grade RC could be spend on a new engine or a new body for a TT.
IMO of course.
