Question GT550 Motor Control Help

I am very new to RC, and wanted to play around with an idea I had. Instead of dropping a ton of money on a new kit, I thought I could get a junked RC car and mess around to see how everything worked. I got a used HPI Racing E-Savage. It has an SF-2 Servo and two GT550 14.4V motors and a TF-1 Transmitter. I thought I was golden but when I opened it up I saw the batteries and speed control unit were gone. The problem I face is I don't know what to use with the GT550 motors, the actual replacement speed controller for this is $80-$100, and I am not looking to spend that much right now. Ultimately I wanted to use just one motor to control my other unit and the servo to steer. I was hoping to use the other unit on a separate project. Is there a speed controller I can use for just one motor and the servo?
