Default I need some pictures..REAL bad.

Hello everyone,

I am going to take on a project of making a Pan Car outa Titanium sheet that will be lighter than any graphite car around and be 10x stronger. But I REALLY need some pictures so I can get some idea of where I need to start.

I Really need some pictures of the shock angles(horizontal/parallel to the ground).
I also need some pictures of the front ends and rear axles.

Anything anyone can give me will help.

Thanks..A TON!

Aaron

I dont think a Ti pan car chassis would be any lighter than graphite. As I understand it (I could be wrong), Ti is heavier than aluminum, and as we all know aluminum is heavier than graphite. To get it lighter than a graphite chassis you would more than likely need to remove so much material that it would drasticaly weaken the chassis.

Sorry Jakjr, but where there is money(and a reputation) there is a way. If you know what you are buying and what you are dealing with, TI or Alum. can be lighter than graphite or anything of that sort.

and also, it doesnt really matter how much material you take off, but where and how you take it off.

And thanks A TON for the pictures. I greatly apprechiate it.

::EDIT::

What rims and foams to most people use on Pan cars, I would like to pickup a set so I can model the axles and rearend in solid works.

Ti is way lighter than aluminum, and it is stronger. but not as light as graphite unless it is super thin

Rustler, please do not question my knowledge over yours. As my dad is a known machinest to anyone who knows about mountain bikes and TONS of other stuff that he has done. I do know what I am talking about and once again, If you know what you are doing, making cuts into a chassis of any material can help the strength and lighten it all in one.

And please, If you dont have anything to say that will help me, please take your talk to the general section or some other place.

Thanks,
Aaron

listen bro.
titanium has a desity of 4.3-4.5 g/cm^3
aluminum is about 2.7 g/cm^3
carbon fiber is usually between 1-2 g/cm^3

so as we see, titanium is the heaviest but the stongest of the 3. now if you want to argue with me...please go right ahead, part of my concentration is manufacturing which included several material classes

you could potentally do a design with minimum material and be stronger than graphite, but if you make them identical, you will NEVER be lighter than cf.

Okay, one thing, where EXACTLY are these coming from, give me some details here. Like the size, thickness, etc.

first off dont flame me............
a lot of people are misinformed that titanium is lighter than aluminum, and your obviosly one of them. As far as my buggy I built it to be efficient, reliable and a incredible on road handling machine, basically meant to be driven......oh yea and I made it look good as well. I dont know everything but I was trying to help you out. If you dont want to take others advice then dont start a thread.

these come direct off matweb ( extensive material database).
density is mass per unit volume, so actually size, thickness, etc is irrelevant. for every cubic cm of material ( lenght x width x height), you have 4.5g of mass.
so a 10mm long, 10mm wide and 3mm thick piece of cf would have a volume of (10x10x3)=300mm^3
since 10mm = 1 cm then that would give you 300mm^3 = .3cm^3
so the piece should be roughly 1.35g

okay. i was mistaken. but i know ti is much stronger. so you can cut a design to make it as light as graphite, but it will be stronger. but more prone to bending if it is too thin.

okay, please stop using my thread as a debate area of what materials are better. thats not what this thread was made for. I realize I am wrong, if you are considering the same amount of materail to eachother. Maybe i want to make a Ti pancar because no one else has?!

be sure to chamfer slots and edges of course to make it stronger

no offense, but this is a web forum, if you are gonna bring a claim about doing something and it being lighter than something else, its good to have all you facts lined up. and you really dont want to say this: "You know, there are some really arrogant people around here who thing THEY KNOW EVERYTHING. As my dad has the means, and so do i, to do things that you can probly only dream of."

i will leave my advice as it stands unless i see the arguing continues, then i will HAVE to jump back in because i love rc design, but i want to make sure ppl understand how design truely works

what is your reasoning behind saying chamfering the edges will increase strength?

I was wondering that myself, I've never heard of chamfers strengthening anything. Putting a lip around the edge, on the other hand, should strengthen it up.

yes, please tell, because that really makes no sence at all. no offence, but if you were smart on where you make the cuts in the chassis..no strength should have been needed..
