Default lipos in emaxx

I was wondering if anyone has run lipo's in a stock emaxx . I was thinking about running two 11.1 3s lipo's . Will the stock evx handle 22.volts ? if not has anyone run anyothers with succuss.

The stock esc can handle 14.4 volts.

The ESC will fail if you try to push 22 volts through it.

Many are starting to use li-pos in e-maxx and usually use 4s and a brushless motor. I am going to use 5s with a stock esc and have tested many to determine the max voltage of the evx . It is 23 volts.

Even though the li-po you mentioned says 11.1 it is goiung to be around 25 volts and the evx will not work, if you use 5s it will be around 21 volts.

ps if you don't like that the KA-6 perfex will handle about 28 volts.

I wouldn't put that many volts through it. I would like to hear if the LiPo's work out for you though.

My current set-up is 17 nimhs and usually comes off the charger slightly over 23 volts. I think a 5S li-po will blow my set-up away because of the weight and the discharge current capacity. My 17 cells is a pig. sled.

ps Mostly need to worry about the titans as they are pretty much maxxed out on 14 cells.

traxxas says the max amount of cells is 14 which equals 16.8V and since my six cell nimh come off the charger with maybe 9 volts I think you would be fine running 20V but you should increase cooling to the esc by using a fan, some extra heatsinks, or something else. I won't guarantee that this works since battery voltage quickly drops after you run the truck for a few minutes so the load on the esc is not contiunasly at that level.

Be safer and run either a 4C or 2 2C's

no, you cannot run that much on a stock esc unles you want a nice smoke controller and possibly risk damage to expensive lipo packs

ok ... so if I run one 3c 11.1volt bat , how do I make it so I can connect one bat to the two connectors ? can you splice the two together ?

It is ok to use 2s on the servo/esc side connector and then use 1s on the dummy side. It is also ok to use a 3s on the servo/esc side and then jumper the other connector + to -

The connectors hook batts in series and only one side powers servos and esc.

of course a 3s is going to put you underpowered when compare to the 14.4 you could normally run. you might break about even given the weight savings, but it will probably be close

Yea, I think that 3s would be a dog. It maybe a nice lightweight setup along with some lower tun motors though. Possibly even get away with some 540's, but then the max current of the evx kinda comes into question.

could you wire a 3s and a 2s together one for each connector for 18.5V or do the batteries need to be the same?

I have what I guess is a stupid question... By the time you buy all those Lipos, why not just get a brushless system and 12 IB3800s - good run time and much faster - you could get at least 3 sets of IBs (6 packs) for the price of 1 set of Lipos....

Yes, that is how mine will be (if I ever get the money) the cell count need not be the same, just as long as there's 6-10 volts on the evx side and then the balance of the voltage on the dummy side.

I see the two upgrades as seperate upgrades, when doing both they will compliment each other enhancing them better than if they were seperate. The best reason for li-po is weight. I personally am going li-po before going brushless. opposite of most I think.

lipo and brushless is the way to go for the greatest power to weight ratio.
for reference, the 7.4v lipo pack i have will toast the 8 cell nimh pack i got from elmo by about 4mph
