Is it bad if my battery were to be wrapped in a thin piece of foam?

Heat is the main problem. Do you guys think it would be alright if I wrapped my stick pack already wrapped in shrink wrap and wrap it again it thin thin foam like 1/16ths of an inch? Im doing this to secure the battery easily between the slots of my chassis with some sort of tie also the space it out form the aluminum so it wont short. Would heat be a concern and affect my performance? Its like a blanket but would it matter....

i believe you shouldn`t do it. heat during discharge is otherwise high, so that foam will make things worse. why would you want to do it exactly?

Hmmm I see....Im doing this because I basically zip tie the battery pack to my chassis since its slotted to help keep it in one place aslo I need to space the pack from the aluminum so it wont short.

Why dont you stop making stuff complicated???Just get a dam battery tray.If your going to do custom work, do it right.

That should work perfect.I was trying to find the ones from the old rc10s. Should just bolt on your chassie.Heres a pic for referance how it works...

FST, chill out please. No need to speak heavily, he was asking a simple question. jdm, I do think the foam would unnecessarily cause heat for your pack, not good. Heat shortens the lifespan of a pack. If the pack is shrink-wrapped, it shouldn't short. The only way to short it would be metal-on-metal contact. If you have metal exposed on the pack, use electrical tape to cover it safely.

I agree with the second guy. Heat is your worst enemy in electrics, besides if its a stickpack its already well protectedand already prone to overheating if it gets hot outside anyways

As for the orginal question, how about getting some liquid electrical tape (walmart has it in the automtive dept., I'm sure lowes or a similar place would have it as well) and coating the chassis (actually, just the area where your pack goes) with that? That would prevent the pack from shorting out. Only problem is that it will probably wear down fast so frequent recoats would be necessary.

How about using a velcro style strap instead of zip ties? That wouldn't damage anything, I use one on my B4 and if anything it puts less wear on the packs than the stock strap did.

Don't know if it will work for your car, but I used an 8 inch velcro cable wrap (they're for bundling up loose wires and such), I got a pack of six from target for like $3, works great, perfect size too.

Yeah it's pretty secure, it hasn't came loose or anything, weighs next to nothing too.
You might want to use two (or even three, like I said they barely weigh anything so it wouldn't really affect the weight) of them on yours though, seeing as the chassis has no walls or anything to keep the battery pack in place.
