Most people, including myself, charge at 5 amps, some of the racers charge at 6 amps.

The info that came with the charger said never charge a NiMh pack above 3.0 but nicads can charge at 5.0 -6.0 amps. I wonder why some say this and others say it's OK at higher amps?

Most airplane guys want longer batt life and recommend a 1C rate. Most car guys care more about power and use 2C rate max.

They are both right. The guideline I use is how much of a hurry I am in,

With this charger DuraTrax IntelliPeak AC/DC Digital Pulse Charger how long would it take to charge a gp 3300 mah battery pack at 5 amps and 6? And how long for a 1900mah pack at 5 amps?

Very true...

robert, time required in mins = ( battery mAh ) / ( charge rate in mA ) * 60 mins.

i dont get what you said. Do i multiply the mah on the batt with the ma on the charger??? I think the charger is 100mA cus it says TRICKLE Charge Rate: 100mA but thats all i found.

No, you divide the battery pack capacity by the charge rate then multiply that number by 60.

In other words, 3300 / 100 X 60 ='s 1980 minutes, therefore it would take 33 hours to fully charge a 3300mah pack at a 100mah charge rate.

It is kinda like speed, At 55 mph (rate) how long will it take to go 55 miles? 1 hr, right.

5 amp rate delivers 83 ma/hr
6 amp rate delivers 100/hr

6a would be equal to 6000mah so for a 3300 batt it would take a little over 30min to charge it

Default RE: How many amps to charge

i think that these calculations are wrong
5 amp rate delivers 83 ma/hr
6 amp rate delivers 100/hr .
It should be like the ones below. it takes a thousand milliamps to make one amp .if i am wrong some one let me know

1: 5 amp =5000 milliamps in an hour
2: 6 amp =6000 milliamps in an hour

Sorry, these ar PER MINUTE, not per hr. The per hr figures are easy. 5 amps = 5 amps per hr.

ok 5 amps= 5000 miliamphours
Then your cells are 3300mah so just divide 3300 by 5000 and you'll get 40 minutes about you can do the math for 6 amps... lol

Default RE: How many amps to charge

Amount of time needed to charge your battery!!!

Some stuff for the not so mathmatical people:

A "/" is a "divide" sign.
A "*" is a "multiplication" sign.
1A = 1000mAh

The Equation:

A = Batteries Capacity in mAh
B = Chargers Output Currant
C = 60 Minutes (1 hour, pretty simple, eh?)

A / B * C = Amount of time to charge your battery

I have a 3.3A (3300mAh) battery, and a charger that charges at 5A (5000mAh).

This is how I would work it out:

3300 / 5000 * 60

What I would key into a calculator:

3300 "divide sign" 5000 "multiplication sign" 60

And 100% of the time, the answer it will give me is 39.6 minutes.

(OMG, YES, That took me ages to make!)

Time needed to charge common mAh batteries:

GP3300

0.1A = 1980 minutes
0.5A = 396 minutes
1A = 198 minutes
2A = 99 minutes
3A = 66 minutes
4A = 49.5 minutes
5A = 39.6 minutes
6A = 33 minutes
7A = 28.3 minutes

GP3700

0.1A = 2200 minutes
0.5A = 444 minutes
1A = 222 minutes
2A = 111 minutes
3A = 74 minutes
4A = 55.5 minutes
5A = 44.4 minutes
6A = 37 minutes
7A = 31.7 minutes

IB3800

0.1A = 2280 minutes
0.5A = 456 minutes
1A = 228 minutes
2A = 114 minutes
3A = 76 minutes
4A = 57 minutes
5A = 45.6 minutes
6A = 38 minutes
7A = 32.6 minutes

IB4200

0.1A = 2520 minutes
0.5A = 504 minutes
1A = 252 minutes
2A = 126 minutes
3A = 84 minutes
4A = 63 minutes
5A = 50.4 minutes
6A = 42 minutes
7A = 36 minutes

HOPE I HELPED!
