Default Lipo 3000 mah compared to ??? NIMH

Trying to understand why lipo's are so much better.... is mah vs mah the same lipo vs nimh? I have heard a 3000 lipo is compared to 4000+ nimh is this true?

Lipos hold their voltage longer than nixx cells so u get runs that dont drop off like nixx

And yes Mah rating is Mah in both. That's basically the amount of charge they hold, so it's a standard unit. And depending on your application you may or may not want to use the 3000 lipo if you're replacing a 4000+mah nimh. For onething, the lipo will obviously give less runtime (3000 vs 4000 mah). The other thing is, for example if you're running a brushless 1/10th, you'd want a lipo that can handle high amp draw, usually around 80+ amps constant. And yes Nimh are only rated for 40 amp discharge, but that's another story (they heat up but don't explode or catch fire or get damaged as easily as a lipo would if you exceed the amp draw).

Also, lipos, as I mentioned can discharge MUCH higher amps, meaning you get a lot more punch, and as someone mentioned earlier, they hold their voltage under load better than nimh. And a 7.4v 2s 4000 mah lipo weighs about ~6.5 oz., whereas a 7.2v 6-cell 4000 mah Nimh will be over 14-15 oz.

Most noticably is the extra amperage and the weight. LiPos weigh on average about 1/2 as much as NIMH cells.

so in all reality how big of a difference would I see in this scenario.

I have a stampede with Novak Hv maxx 4.5

I am running 14 cells 3300 NIMH 30 tooth pinion, 76 tooth spur. The thing is scary fast....l

anyways how much of a difference would I really see if I went to a 4s lipo 3000-4000 mah

You'd see a pretty huge performance increase, 14 NiMH Cells weigh about 35oz or so, equal voltage on a Lipo will weigh about 15-17oz. Not to mention a LiPo will deliver higher amps.

For the HV-Maxx, you really don't want the 3000 mah battery. If it's rated for 20C discharge, that's only 60 amps.... You want to look into at the very least 4000+ mah 20C constant lipos. Those can supply 80 amps constant and should stay relatively cool (100-110'F) until near the end when the voltage drops to 11 volts or below.

And yeah... I ran 12-cell IB4200s, and then 3s lipo... The weight difference as mentioned above alone is crazy (as in true), and then the fact that my top speed with the 3s lipo is close to the 12-cell Nimh due to that reason.......
